WOW Jenni, I'm in love with that sable pup!

Yeah, me too. Sadly, she's leaving next week to go live with some jerk who goes by the screen name "Chausser."

Yes, Jenni,

I'm totally in love with that sable pup, too.

That's the pic I would post if I was going to post a pic on the GS side regarding what dogs catch my eye..She certainly caught mine!

She's a little short in the body, maybe?  But overall I love her color, conformation and expression. She's simply stunning.  And so's the male you posted a pic of...I like his look, too.

Thank you both.

C'mon...how 'bout the critiques, people?

I've already done this, but I'm going to copy and paste it anyway from the thread I posted previously:

Medium-large, medium strong female with good feminine expression. Excellent overall proportions, with high withers and good topline. Croup somewhat short and steep Good angulation of the fore and hind, correct chest and shoulder proportions. Excellent feet and pasterns. Pigment of saddle faded (it's even MORE faded now than when that picture was taken) pronounced bitch stripe, coat dry (lacks volume). Ears large and somewhat weak. Elbows turn out, and front feet turn in when gaiting, moves close behind. Ribcage somewhat slab sided, needs more breadth.

And of course, THE most important thing, which can't be seen in a photo....she came back mildly dysplastic in one hip on the OFA evaluation. Her elbows are fine, though. I had her spayed as soon as I found out.

The only thing I don't know how to comment on is how her gait compares to other German shepherds in terms of length of stride, etc.

Here's her pedigree: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/gsd/pedigree/523413.html

Here's my male:

Large (25 1/2", 75 lbs.) strong male, with good bone, and excellent masculine expression. Very nice head, with good earset and dark mask. Eye could be slightly darker. Good pigment.  Front pasterns somewhat long, front feet flat and splayed. Upper arm could be longer, and wither needs to be higher. Good angulation of fore and hind, though shoulder could have more layback. Croup short and steep, tailset correct.  Moves cleanly coming and going, but stride lack reach due to short upper arm.

I have no idea what his bloodlines are, as he is a rescue. He may be a mixture of German working lines, and American showlines, but that's only a guess.  I LOVE his head!

Jenni,  I think that sable pup is just gorgeous! That jerk better take good care of her, or I'll beat his a$$!  LOL!

That's a female?! Wow. Lucky you, chausser.

Jenni,

Caleb is an awesome fellow.  Nothing screams out at me and I disagree with you on his length.  The GSD is supposed to be longer than he is tall according to the standard.  He is very well balanced, good bone, good back, croup & tailset.  Nice depth of chest, good angulation, nice head, ears and expression.  His neck is a bit heavy but overall he looks great.

The pups are nice looking pups but I agree with Crys that they look a little short, almost too square.  It looks like the sable is a bit straight in the shoulder but it could just be the angle of the picture.  The black seems to have a better front end.  They both have beautiful heads & ears, again the black's neck looks a little thick.  Their eyes could be darker.  I can't quite put my finger on it but their rear angulation looks off to me.  I can't decide if what I am seeing is a steep croup or too long a thigh or it could be the poor stack.  I would really like to see both of them in a proper stack.  They both look to have good bone and strong backs.  The black has a deeper chest.  Going strictly by these pictures, between the pups I would pick the black.

Anyone else want to comment and tell me what I missed or got wrong?  I'm always up for an education!

Deb,

While I appreciate your kindness about my baby, ;-) Caleb is definitely too big.

He's almost 27" at the withers, and is a tad long. As far as conformation facilitating working ability....many prefer shorter coupled dogs and I totally agree.

In fact, that's what most like about Aria. She is as agile as a cat, where Anza, the black, is just average in athletic ability. Aria is standing uphill, and Anza is standing sort of on a side hill. She has HUGE bone and is way more substantial than she looks in that pic. No one believes she's a female.  Interestingly, Aria is the one that everyone goes nuts over as far as structure. Their eyes aren't actually as light as they look; I had to adjust those pics a bit and when I adjusted for contrast, they lightened a bit. They aren't super dark, but they look yellowish in these pics and they are dark brown/amber.

Here are the two of them, head on:

Here's Anza again, standing uphill of course, lol:
