is a favorite chew toy for when the dogs are just hanging around in the house.  they make them in a lot of sizes, and they last longer than the red original kongs.

My dog loves the Jolly ball. The rope in the middle finally died a year into having it but the ball is still alive and well, It's soft enough that the teeth don't get injured but too big for the dog to eat pieces out of it. I had an everlasting ball thing, that lasted about 15 minutes and pieces started to fly. By day 3 I threw it away. I want to try the eggies. I have black Kongs and the dogs never like them enough to destroy them. The most play I have gotten out of anything has been the Jolly balls and by numerous dogs. They make them for horses so they can withstand dog punishment. I also have to use the Gappay balls for training anything else won't hold up to my dogs punishment.

4pack, did you have the larger everlasting ball, the 4 inch?  My male goes crazy on that thing and hasn't destroyed it yet.  He only gets it when he's in the house which is about 2 hours a night.  They have put slits in the ball but no real damage.  They outlast the ultra king kongs like 20 to 1.  I've had 3 of them for almost a year now.

Toy or teeth...Something has got to give.

When my JRT was a puppy, I was baiting him with a pup-tug. He chomped ahold and a rousing game of tug-o-war broke out. Little did I know his puppy teeth were getting ready to fall...

...Until he went flying backwards in a spray of saliva and discarded teeth.

Now toothless and bloody-gummed, he launches himself back at the tuggy as if nothing had happened and hangs on. I gave him the "aus" command, put the tuggy away, and tossed a few ice-cubes on the floor for him to soothe his mouth. Now THAT is drive for you: not a tooth left past his premolars and he was still ready to go. If I could find a GSD with that amount of drive, now that would be the dog for me  .

Thanks for the suggestions, All. I will have to check them out. That eGGe looks fun. It's something that I could see entertaining the whole pack.

Yes Jim, I always get the biggest I can find to avoid a choking hazard. He has the treat thing off in 30 seconds. Wont waste my $$ on another. As I recall, it wasn't cheap. I'm glad someone posted aboutteh harder toys and teeth. Made me rethink that idea.

Thanks, Jim... I'll avoid the Boomer!

Rhino bones, nylabones and plain ol' regular knucklebones/shinbones have all been known to damage and break teeth.

Then there's my male Shepherd, whose toy of preference is a rock or a brick. I could never do schutzhund with him: his bottom canines are worn down to stubs!

Seems like there IS no perfect toy!

And whoever recommended the black kongs? Just for fun, I think I'm going to post a picture of Star's black kong.

What's left of it, that is!
