I dont know what you guys are saying cause here in Canada the 24 has changed 2 times in 6 months and the dogs will NOT eat it for days at a time. Before anyone decides that its me doing something wrong I'll tell you that its not only my dog but SEVERAL other friends of mine with multiple dogs had the same problem and switched foods.God only knows that i tried long enough to keep them on it cause i like the idea of the 19% fat content and big kibble but had no luck. Then a young lady from the UK posted the ingredient panel of the same food in the UK and well low and behold ITS DIFFERENT so i dont know what this company is doing.Tried SEVERAL times to speak with them but here in Canada I felt the girl who works there COULD'NT answer hardly any questions and when she did it took a week to 2 weeks and then more evasive answers. How can a food they claim is for the GSD have so many versions,in the UK its one ingrdient list,in Canada its different and I'll bet anything that in Germany its again different so whats up with that? Here no corn ,in the UK it has corn.I had a big arguement with a friend in my club before saying that it was different food in Germany and i told him no way it could be cause its a fixed GSD food and then to find out this ,i was humiliated.Needless to say we all took our dogs off it and thats the end of it.As a vet friend of mine told me a few years ago, what makes it a GSD food, its all marketing and GENIOUS marketing at that.

Hodie
Royal Canin over here in Belgium is
86 USA Dollars for 27lb bag of Royal Canin German Shepherd 24
Belgium is a hell of an expensive place to live, but you do not get the choice of food stuffs we can in the UK
I feed Orijen as i have said, but Fred gets very hyped up on the training field when he sees other Dogs working and he is not, He never used to be like this and i wonder if the 42% protein content of Orijen is anything to do with this hyped up attitude
He can do his stint on Protection and be ready to go again and again, its not natural, Perhaps i may have to try another lower Protein Kibble and see if it calms him
Ronnie, how come you pay 30 Euros a bag of Breeders RC,
what price can you get RC German Shephred 24 for

We were using it for our puppy, but she really didn't like it. She started having problems passing her stool as if she was constipated or the diet was too lean. She wasn't eating enough and her ribs were showing too much for our taste. We've got her on a regular large breed adult diet (she's almost 8 months now), and she likes it much better than the Royal Canin. She's gained a few pounds since and doesn't look as skinny. Royal Canin might be the best food for the dog, but the dogs don't always like it. It costs an average of $45 per 40 lb bag at PetSmart.

When I took closer look at the ingridiants I didn't like it, so I decided against it. I am using now Vets Choise "Holistic Health Extension Original" I just add vegetable here and there, as well I am giving my dog Olewo Carots, and Matins K9 Formula (antioxidants & Energol) like what I am seeing my girl's stool is always firm, she looks lean and healthy. I did question this food (breeders choie) at first but the more I researched the more I liked the combination. So now I am staying with it. Royal Canine my other female lieks it (24) but I don't think is the bes I can give to my dog. Yeah Raw would be better but I don't have time or money to do it, so Holistic VC sounds good to me and from what I see its a good combination. Good luck.

Vikram, why feed royal canin when you can give your dogs a homemade or raw diet. Royal Canin does not use human grade meat. IMO this food is of substandard quality. I live in Pakistan and rc and purina are the only brands available here. I used to import Innova Evo but it wasnt getting tooo expensive. Switched to the homemade diet and after a month switched to the raw diet thanks to Yellowrose and some other members on this site. Its the best thing ive done for my female so far. Anyway back to the topic. This food is not worth feeding. Its toooo pricey and costs more than some of the top brands! Goodluck! :D

I use RC 24 for most of my GSD's. Expensive at $50. for 35 lbs., but the dogs are doing well on the stuff and don't need as much to maintain good weight and condition as with some other foods. I use Canidae Platinum for my seniors, but the rest of the Canidae formulas give the dogs loose stools and drier coats. I do supplement a few of the dogs with K9 Power formulas, especially Super Fuel for dogs in hard training and Young at Heart & Joint Strong for 8 yr. old Carol. (He looks and acts half his age on the stuff) The only K9 Power supplement I was not hapy with was the Puppy Gold. Most of the moms and pups wouldn't eat it, and the ones that did got the scours. I am thinking it may have gone bad in the warm (70-80 F in summer) kennel, but there was no notice that it needed refrigeration on the container.
Anybody using RC Large Dog Breeder's Formula? (available in bulk quantities) I am considering giving that a try this winter, AFTER the show season ends and I can afford to experiment with coat condition.

Yes my female was getting that for most of her life, she had her days, but never problems with loose stool or coat, always top notch, but I would not recomend as it is pricy and the meat selection is not the best, VC Cost me 50.00 while RC 55.00 so I save 5 plus VC my dogs eat less of it and stay lean and mean, never underweight. I have to agree that RC is great for maintaining weight. But it is a personal choice Shelly I think it is up to individual dog. Some dogs do really great on RC and some not. Even though I use Vets Choice for my pup, and would love to switch over both of my dogs to VC, they both enjoy RC way better, lol. :) Maybe they know whats better for them, and I am just fooling myself? What ya think? lol.

I have raised my dog on GSD 24 and would not feed anything else. Her health and coat are excellent! As they say, don't mess with success!
