 Con't

Too bad People for the American Way couldn't read the same day's Times before it placed that ad.

Because a long story a couple of pages later cites a report by ACORN's own lawyer that says the relationships between the group's 174 affiliates may have violated multiple federal laws.

The report raises problems, the article adds, about possible illegal use of charitable dollars for political purposes, improper money transfers and conflicts created by employees working for ACORN affiliates.

The report also addresses the $1 million embezzled by the brother of ACORN's founder and secretly hushed up for years by the organization - saying the group will have to call in "a knowledgeable, white-collar criminal attorney."

ACORN is under investigation in a dozen states in connection with its voter-registration schemes.

In July 2007, it settled the largest case of voter fraud in Washington state history. Three ACORN election hoaxers pleaded guilty; a prosecutor called ACORN's criminal sabotage "an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls."

And let's not forget ACORN's history, dating to the '80s, of trespassing, illegal seizure of private property, physical harassment, intimidation and outright extortion.

A few bad apples?

More like an orchard's worth.

Mickey, this whole thing about ACORN is a distraction. Yes, there have been false registrations but what you don't acknowledge is that in many states the law requires that ALL registrations must be submitted irrespective of whether or not it is accurate and complete. ACORN flags the registrations that it believes are questionable or incomplete when they are submitted to state authorities.

Here is what Charlie Crist has to say about ACORN and the false registration problem. I have emphasized certain sections:

"Breaking with the talking points of his fellow Republicans in Washington, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said he does not think voter fraud and the vote-registration group ACORN are a major problem in the Sunshine State. ''I think that there's probably less [fraud] than is being discussed. As we're coming into the closing days of any campaign, there are some who enjoy chaos,'' Crist told reporters. Crist made his comments as the Republican National Committee hosted a conference call with reporters to tie Democrat Barack Obama to suspicious voter-registration cards submitted by ACORN across the nation and in four Florida counties, including Broward.

In the Broward case, an unknown person attempted to re-register a longtime voter named Susan S. Glenckman. Broward officials caught the error in August when it was brought to their attention by ACORN. During the Wednesday Republican conference call, national party spokesman Danny Diaz focused more on a case out of Orange County, in which someone used an ACORN-stamped voter-registration card to sign up Mickey Mouse. But Crist's Republican Secretary of State, Kurt Browning, said he doesn't think ACORN is committing systematic voter fraud. And Crist said that settles the matter because ''I have enormous confidence'' in Browning. Like ACORN spokesmen, Browning says the false voter registration forms could be blamed on unethical canvassers or on citizens who themselves fill out fictitious voter cards.

REGISTERING VS. VOTING - - Elections officials point out that while voter-registration fraud is relatively easy, vote fraud is far more difficult because a criminal would have to evade multiple layers of computer-system and identity checks. They also say the system is not overwhelmed with phony registrations, as Diaz suggested during the conference call. ACORN's head Florida organizer, Brian Kettenring, went a step further, saying the group was being framed in the Mickey Mouse case -- though he wasn't sure who was behind it. ''It's reasonable to assume that there's a strong possibility this is a set-up,'' Kettenring said. ``We have a substantial reason to believe someone probably got one of our cards and submitted it to the elections office without us knowing.''

Why is the Stock Market crashing?

Anticipation of an Obama Presidency and increased capital gains tax?

Is Obama visiting his gravely ill grandmother? The only person left who can inform us what country he was really born in.

Well if he is in Hawaii, why now he can just pick up a copy of that birth certificate and put all those rumors to rest?

Sue, thanks for the AP link to the Charles Fried withdrawal from the McCain campaign.

You, and others, may find the below link interesting which outlines the tensions that have developed between Palin and others in the McCain campaign:

ACORN was disgusting, and they got caught and were thoroughly repudiated by Obama/Biden, as they should've been.  UNLIKE the cheating that went on in FL last election when thousands of voters were turned away: "Your name is Leroy Jones.  I have that name on a list of felons.  You can't vote."  "But I'm not a felon.  I'm not that Leroy Jones."  "How do I know that?  No vote for you."  or how about the reports coming in from West Virginia early voting going on right now:  http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/10/voting-machine.html  Apparently it's common that when you push the button for Obama, a checkmark appears next to McCain's name.  NICE,

One of the news reports talked to an 81yo man who complained to election officials and was told, "kindly", yes the machines have been doing that.

WTH?!

And it would've been nice to see some repudiating by McCain or Palin about the crowds yelling "Kill him!" when Obama's name is mentioned at their rallies.  Palin's response? "I didn't hear that. I can't hear what they're shouting."  NOT: that's disgusting and won't be tolerated, but "I can't hear everything they're saying."  DISGUSTING.

Finally - update from the business world.  The CEO of the company where I work voted by absentee ballot this week and told me that, for the first time in his life, he voted for a Democrat for President.  He's a big-deal contributer to the GOP, always has been, and is very active in Republican politics.  He told me it felt strange to not be voting Republican, but he truly believes in "Country First" and that McCain/Palin would be a disasterous choice for the U.S.  He certainly makes far, far more than $250,000 a year, and thinks he may eventually pay more taxes, but admits that WHOEVER wins, everybody's taxes are going to go up to pay for this mess, and that a) McCain, who he respects greatly, has "lost it," and b) Palin is "an unmitigated disaster - poorly educated, not bright, and truly frightening to think of her being 'this close' to being President."  She's had nothing but high-level coaching and briefing for the last couple months, and she still is incoherent and can't straightforwardly answer a single question.  Scary.

Joe the Plumber may not be licensed but he is seeking to extend his 15 minutes of fame! He is thinking of running for Congress. Now it could be similar to his thinking of buying his employer's business - but given that the Republicans chose someone as unqualified as Palin to be the VP nominee, perhaps Joe fits the mould!

But even if Joe never makes it to Congress or buys his employer's plumbing business, Cindy McCain tells him to keep his dreams alive:

OK, the letter is just a bit of satire!

Obama went to Hawaii to smother his g-mother with a pillow so she doesn't tell us that he really was born in Kenya. That birth certificate doesn't look real to me.

Did you know that he's a Muslim as well as being half black and if he wins he will roundup all the real  white people in this country, put them in cook pots and eat them? That's really his plan to end hunger in the US.

All the taxes that are generated by the tax increases on those earning over 250K will go into his personal account so Michele can shop at Neiman Marcus.

Obama is planning an invasion of Alaska where he will confiscate all the oil fields, drill baby drill, and will ship all harvested oil to Kenya where they will use it to build a nuclear weapons plant for the muslims.

Obama's half sister is the absentee adminstrator of Acorn and is illegally registering aliens from Mars with the promise of Amercan citizenship if they vote for Obama. The feds will also pay for complete makeovers so that they blend in with the rest of America.

Obama is hiding his birth certificate from the pubic because he is a lot older than he says he is. He was actually born in 1939 and was the brains behind both Kennedy assassinations.

Obama's illegitimate brother just a few days ago initiated a bogus call to 911 in the communist part of northern VA to complain about a traffic situation. When he was told that 911 is not for such issues,  his reply was f@#$ you.  They identified him by returning his call and listening to his message saying he couldn't come to the phone since he was busy with family politics. However, he was gratious enough to return the 911 call and once again tie up the line with more personal rhetoric.  Initially the caller was erroneous identified as mcCain's brother. However John has denied it was his brother as the Obama camp has said; his brother was with him when it happened and he can voutch for him. Another dirty trick by the Obama for President campaign.

Rush Limbaugh has proof positive that Colin Powell is in fact a member of the communist party and a muslim.  His book comes out in a week and will be entitled "IT'S ALL ABUT RACE....LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN, IT'S ALL ABOUT RACE".  Bill O'Reilly has already pre-ordered 1,000 copies as Christmas gifts for the Fox News staff and a few close friends. Limbaugh and Corsi are planning a dual book signing in NYC at a table set up on the sidewalk outside St. Patricks Cathedral.  A prayer vigil will follow; donations welcomed.

Unquestionably,  the biggest headline of the week is that , if elected, Obama will move the White House from DC to Africa. He plans to paint it black.

Wow, interesting to learn that the Stock Market crash is due to the anticipation that Obama may win the election. I'd have never thought of that, thanks for the heads-up, Ninja.

BTW, Ninja, there is a copy of that birth certificate on the factcheck.org website. They saw it, say it's authentic and it's been substantied by the state of Hawaii. McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, wasn't he? So I guess it really doesn't matter where a candidate is born after all.
