There have been several wonderful working dogs imported into the UK, actually! Moritz & Lass Kammberg (sp?) (both sable) were imported about 12 years ago, I think! Arko Hunnegrab (import) had an excellent reputation for producing good workers (17-18 years ago?). Latchetts has always had decent working dogs, same with Nyrvana... they still do and there are several others. Working enthusiasts, knowledgeable, working enthusiasts have never been at the mercy of showline breeders, rich or otherwise! The police were only at the mercy insofar as they relied on gift dogs!
I have no idea what Videx or any other kennel charges for a puppy these days, but a well bred working dog never used to be much less!
Bristol & Avon police (the first video in Bancroft's post) had a dog, through me (unwanted pet) about 10 years ago, (not bred by me) that they were very pleased with... he was a show bred dog.
No doubt, the working lines are better / easier, as I've previously said... but this is part of the gap we should aspire to close, not widen... I sincerely hope that most of you (with real knowledge) do not want our breed split into, show & working.

1. A hard dog only means a dog who is resilient, one who recovers quickly from adversity.
2. A dog with an "alpha" personality is generally a very confident dog, and not a difficult dog to handle.
3. Working line dogs SHOULD have a ton of drive, but that doesn't mean they are hectic or hyper.
As far as most working line puppies failing to reach a satisfactory working standard: How would you know and what exactly is your idea of a "satisfactory working standard" since your own dogs are not performance oriented? While it is most definitely true most dogs will never see a podium at a regional, national or international event, that hardly makes them "unsatisfactory" or washouts in the eyes of the working/sport community.
As to your childish statement regarding the type of dog you suspect several posters have, well since you have no personal knowledge of the dogs owned by these people, obviously you are only saying it out of your need to strike back, so there is no merit in your comment.
Clearly you want people to see you as some sort of authority or expert in all things GSD, but when you spout off with these ridiculous statements about working line dogs you just sound silly.
