missbeeb: You now are experiencing the "disappointment" felt by many over the many failures and missed opportunities within our breed, especially missed by those at EXECUTIVE LEVELS in our breed. Let us see if they MISS this opportunity, you can be certain they have been following this thread.

Changes WILL be made in respect of dog breeding here in the UK, that is now inevitable, The question is WILL THE CHANGES BE WHAT WE WOULD WANT?
The EXECUTIVE LEVELS within our breed, and other breeds, will most likely play their usual role of being REACTIVE after the event, rather than PROACTIVE before the event. They will complain when changes are imposed, rather than INFLUENCE potential changes.

Beepy, I hadn't thought about contacting my MP. I'll look into that. Good idea.
DP, I'm disappointed in you! Missed opportunities? Life's full of them... you move on! We don't want to miss this opportunity and I don't believe those at "executive level" do either.

If people dont put forward suggestions and campaign to improve things, when changes are made they cannot complain that they are not what they want.
If however you stand up and make suggestions to the right people etc., and then things dont go your way then you have reasons to say something.
It is only from sitting back and doing nothing that things are going to be taken out your control and you wont like the consequences.
If only 1 thing you suggest gets put in place then it makes it worth while, after all you cant expect miracles. Even if enforced health screening was introduced then we would going in the right direction. There must be loads of people who are passionate about the breed who dont belong to BAGSD etc so why not lobby the breed council and KC direct?

Remember one thing! you get one chance to either impress, or influence people. So make it count!! Get you're press, M.P. involved, if you think they will help, Martin Clune's has recently been involved in a 2 part T.V. programme about dogs, he would make a great figure head for the cause! The K.C. would sooner listen to Martin Clune's than anyone on this thread, I'm sure their are other important people that would help the cause if contacted. There are more than 250 posts on this thread, and nothing has been established in tablets of stone. 23/11/08 is the date of the meeting with the K.C. This thread has been going 2 weeks, will it fizz out, or will it gather speed and be ready to meet the K.C. with determination to achieve the changes to go forward. Remember to put the foundations in before you want to put the roof on. Bill Owen.

DP, I sincerely look forward to reading your proposals.
Thank you.

My "proposals" regarding a new "two tier KC registration system" based on a Breed Survey, will be completed by tomorrow and be placed on my Videx GSD website, www.videxgsd.com
There will be a facility to DOWNLOAD and PRINT them. I would hope they can form the basis of discussions and lead to an agreed and unified "joint proposal" by the GSD Breed Council, BAGSD, and the GSD League, which could then be presented to the Kennel Club at the joint meeting scheduled for the 23rd November 2008.
I also sincerely hope they will assist in the development of a useful and meaningful two tier KC registration system, which can be valuable for the future well being of our breed here in the UK.
I trust they will not lead to personal criticism and personal vilification of myself, my family and my dogs, and I assure everyone I have no agenda for any personal benefit whatsoever.

I have heard the U.K. clubs have also been invited to the meeting with the K.C. in November, that means a body of 4, BAGSD, THE LEAGUE, BREED COUNCIL, and the U.K. REPS, I wonder if the same hymne book will be used!

Who is considered the UK Reps?

by Videx on 06 September 2008 - 21:09
My proposals are almost finalised. They are being "proof read" and this may result in some tweaking. I hope most people will understand that for any proposals to be largely acceptable they have to have broad appeal and agreement. To try and formulate proposals which are of a National nature, primarily concerned with Health issues for our breed, and will be supported by a majority of breeders is no mean task. When you consider the scale of acceptability required to obtain the agreement of the Kennel Club, The GSD Breed Council, The GSD League, BAGSD, and the UK (Alsatian) Club, you will understand the need for compromise, realism, and achievability that any proposals must contain. I hope I have struck the right balance, they can always be somewhat tightened in future years if appropriate and required. Please remember that nobody gets everything that they would want in any agreement between several parties. It would be folly to try and achieve the unachievable and risk having no agreement for the benefit of our breed. I beieve I have struck about the right balance. I will post my proposals on my website as soon as they are finalised, and certainly by tomorrow.
