I am a nobody in the breed and wish to stay that way, my suggestions are just that based on my love of the breed, they are sensible, thought through and clear, surely someone with influence in the political world we live in can take some of them and run with them. If something isnt done the character (in the breed dogs) will continue to degenerate and all you will be left with is a fire side circle runner full of colour shape coat furnishings etc etc

This in not a breed against working dog thing, it's a discussion on the GSD, I know that you, and others, try to keep within the SV system by having your dogs trained and qualified. Also some of the working dog breeders have to consider  the looks to be able to koreung (a requirement for BSP entry).  As a result of that ruling the general type as compared to say WUSV Nijmegen 1993/4 has been radically improved,

Breeders continue to choose from THEIR own selection pool and due to that they have their own requirments etc etc. After all the breed dog judging is subjective ie one persons interpretation of the written word. In the working the degree of interpretation is LESS ie if the dog misses the last article it losses 6 marks not less and not more etc etc

If ALL breeders of any breed, even the one off litter to keep something for themselves, had to have a permit before breeding a litter, it would go a long way to control casual breeding of dogs.  In this area, the breeding of Staffordshire Bull Terriers alone has reached plague proportions (Epups had 350 adverts for Staffies when I last looked and my strays pound is full of them, mostly from obvious pet breeders and some clearly getting desperate to sell.  It would not have to rule out the small, caring breeder, just ensure they had suitable facilities and knowledge to rear a litter, guarantee to take responsibility for any pups they produce in the future and keep accurate records of the pups and where they are sold to.   Would take out the cottage industry puppy farmers at a stroke and encourage those that still want to breed a litter to be more responsible and educated.

Since most GSD breeders already hip score, I doubt the Kennel Club revenue would be too threatened by insisting on just this one test before registering pups from a dog to start with and when breeders are used to that, more tests can be introduced IF necessary.  I imagine there was a similar crisis of revenue when the KC decided to only register dogs out of registered parents, it was not that long ago that you could register pups out of unregistered parents with a 2nd Class Registration and the next generation would be eligible for 1st Class Registration, but there must have been a lot of unregistered dogs left out on a limb when that stopped.  They seemed to weather that one ok!

DP, you miss an important point... I'm not after recognition on your website or anyone elses!  I'm kind of like "Reason" really but as I mentioned in a previous posting, if you're at Crew & Nth Staffs, I'll introduce myself.

Tempting to get several people to introduce themselves.... you know... I'm Spartacus, I'm Spartacus, blah blah... (bit of a giggle) why does it bother you so much anyway?  I'm slightly curious about a few identities but it doesn't trouble me that I don't know who they are, especially when they're trying to do something to improve our Breed... that's what's important!  Isn't it?

Pity "nobody" wants to formulate and process the "Two Tier GSD Kennel Club Registration System" - It could have been beneficial to our breed, given the right content and publicity and breeder support.

Videx - why dont you formulate and put forward the suggestion?  You breed and show regularly, and are a known person and kennel.

People who have yet to breed will not be taken seriously anyway.  I might have had numerous GSDs over the years but I wouldnt be seen as someone worth listening to.

Margaret - you will be amazed at how many people out there do not hip score.  Only this week, I was asked my opinion re someone getting a puppy and I told her to walk away from the unknown scores.  The person had also been told all the wrong things about hip scores and other aspects of the breed.  I was fortunate that day as I had time to spend on the phone explaining health issues with this potential newbie to the breed, I also went on to explain about the dogs drive and what they would have to put into a new puppy.

beepy: If I formulated and circulated and presented it, It would be totally professional, and IT WOULD BE DEAD IN THE WATER. The British will eagerly accept the CHARMING front, with personal agenda and no matter what evil lurks behind.  I simply do not do CHARM &  POPULARITY. I yearn for NOTHING, I seek NOTHING, I do NOT kiss a**e.

DP, if what you say is true, why don't you formulate without circulating?  You could email your totally professional formulation to Beepy... and allow Beepy to circulate & present it, after all, what matters here is the end result... improvement of the GSD, yes?

missbeeb: Because I am not prepared to do that! The work, whoever does it, will be required to have completed "the procedures" with GSD Clubs, The Breed Council, The GSD League and BAGSD, ready for "authoritive and competent presentation" to the Kennel Club at the scheduled meeting in November, AS A JOINTLY AGREED PROPOSAL, by those organisations. If history is anything to go by, the representatives attending the meeting with the Kennel Club will be disjointed and ill prepared and have a chat and come away having achieved little or nothing. Such is the situation in our breed at EXECUTIVE LEVELS.

DP, frankly, you're rather a disappointment.  A few posts ago you were telling us, "to go for it with confidence and vigour, ignore the negative inputs, BEWARE THE BREED PARASITES WHO WILL CLAIM CREDIT" etc etc.

There's no reasonable excuse for refusing to help... if you can!

What did you "say" earlier?  "I yearn for nothing, I seek nothing... is the finale to be, I do nothing?

If you can help... do something!!!

Has anyone on here thought about taking improvements to breeding to local MP's?   The KC has been saying that they are worried that the government will allow someone else such as DEFRA to put in place rules for dog breeding. They also showed the meeting that involved people from the Cavaliers breed going to a meeting.

Why not lobby local MPs with breeder suggestions and get them behind improving things - the KC will probably have to listen if the right people push the right buttons - maybe taking it to others might encourage the KC and Breed Council to step up to the bar.
