Having emailed Sheila Rankin (BC Secretary) yesterday, I got my reply very promptly... and there's a wee bit of good news.

I quote, "the KC has nothing to do with the Breed Survey but they have recently agreed to include it as mandatory to acquire their "enhanced pedigree".

Has everyone given up?  Or have we "gone select"?

Wonder how much the KC will be charging for an enhanced pedigree!

But it is encouraging now the BC need to be more active in including working requirements into the survey structure and if sch is to much at this time plan a forcast say over 5 years each year uping the working requirement, to eventually reach a sch1 qualification, lets face it if a working dog cant do the worldwide prescribed test for its breed it should not be given the priveledge of a breeding classifcation

Reason, my faith is once again restored...the BC have previously asked the KC to withold the title of CH if the dog in question had not been surveyed, although the KC refused, Sheila Rankin feels that the time may be right to approach them again!

Sheila also agrees that the 2 tier registration system is a good idea.

So... it looks like we're on a winner here... don't you post me anything gloomy Reason, we've all to be positive because our BC have not been "doing nowt" as some would have us believe.

THE APTITUDE TEST

It was on off the top of the head list and needs a bit more thought, it should also be the first stage of a detailed progression to get the breed in the UK up to the continental system, say over a 5 year period as long as it is optional it may create a small amount of change, but the kennel club would have to embrace it and i am not sure that they would

say year 1 Aptitude test (to be defined)
year 2 BH
year 3 BH plus 1 phase of sch
year 4 2 phases sch
year 5 min sch1

plus the kennel club must be made to recognise ALL international working qualification on pedigrees and registration certs

The Breed Council, recognise the "Breed Survey" was dying until it was included as an "entry requirement" for the British Sieger. The Breed Council will FULLY EMBRACE the Bred Survey becoming the KEY to a two tier registration system. The Breed Council Surveyors will FULLY GRASP the Breed Survey becoming Key to a two tier registration system. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE HUMAN DESIRE TO BECOME "ELITIST".
The most important issue with the two tier registration system, is to have a fully detailed and meaningful Breed Survey which will GENUINELY HELP OUR BREED. Be very aware of NOT accepting a "politically" watered down EXCUSE of a Breed Survey which satisfies the "ELITISTS" and is of little practical value to the GSD.
I hope most of you can now fully realise the ESTABLISHMENT will want the two tier system. Go for it with determination and confidence and VIGOUR, ignore the negative inputs, and beware of the "BREED PARASITES" who will jump on the bandwagon to take it over and to claim personal credit. There are those who sit like "vultures" observing and waiting for opportunities like this. COME OUT reason, and miss beeb, and other on here and PUT YOUR NAMES  to this proposal. If you do, I WILL PUBLISH IT ON MY WEBSITE, FOR ALL THE WORLD TO WITNESS, AND FOR ALL OF THOSE CONNECTED WITH THE GSD BREED HERE IN GREAT BRITAIN,
to grasp and pursue with confidence.
PEOPLE POWER - that's what makes things happen.

by Estweyn on 04 September 2008 - 16:09

The main reason I have interest in the proposal is to keep our breed healthy and fit for purpose.  Secondly is I work in rescue now having not been in the show ring for over 15 years at least.  Rescue has taken over for me, not just gsds but they are my main concern obviously.

I feel that a two tier system will benefit rescue because Joe public if properly advised and educated will hopefully go for the higher tier when looking for that pet pup, they hopefully will use common sense and pick a pup that will live to an old age and have a healthy life because the breeders took time and care to health screen and ensure the temprement and workability of their breeding dogs. Many dogs are dumped because of ill health.

In turn this will hopefully and eventually make the BSB and the puppy farmers find it not worthwhile to include our beautiful breed in their breeding practices.  Of course they will still advetise in the newspapers as KC reg pups for sale etc but this is were education of the public is essential to guide them to pups that are from screened and assessed parentage.

There are a great many gsds go through rescue, I have recently known of 3 with EPI and there is one from our local pound that went to rescue with dreadful ear condition.  Many dogs are dumped because of health conditions, hopefully this will improve.
