Dear God... what happened?  One day full of promise and then this... because of the comments of a few people who clearly, DON'T want to help or for any change to take place!  Sod 'em, I can't believe you let them get you down... why?

This is why I'm no longer on a committee... it's never about the dogs... it always ends up about egos and kudos!

I'll save my breath to cool my porridge!!!

It seems to me that Peggy has achieved her aim, divide and conquer.

perhaps best to ignore and continue with the good work many of you have done on this forum to put together a suitable proposition for the Breed Council.

A question - in the olden days it was the breed clubs who got things onto the agenda for the BC and reps from the club attended the meetings, does this still happen.  Videx said that all the Breed clubs need contacting as a matter of urgency to support this proposal and take it forward to the BC, has that happened?

Just a thought re names on the site, I have registered with my kennel club affix, but because I was what is probably termed a keen amatuer will not be recognised except by people who knew me when I was actively involved in the breed. However upon registration the process asks for a name, I suppose some folk just put down what comes into their head.  I use my KC affix on most sites so that I can remember who I am!!!!!

Repeat i didnt see the post from peggy and it looks like she removed it herself, hopefully it was posted in a moment of madness, i have posted controversial statements not to intentionally offlend but to show strength of feeling, and i have not said anything that is untrue

Can we get back to the subject i we are happy with the watered down aptitude test

who will propose it

and who will judge it

how will it be recognised ie class 1 the dog MUST PASS the aptitude test

Should there be a partial failure of the test can the dog still have class2

etc etc

We need some input from the breed council for this -

We need to put forward pass and fail criteria for the Class 1 and Class 2.

This might be something that can be expanded on in the future so It might be worth considering what the miminum people are willing to accept right now as well as detailing what could be added on in the future - set this so the test can be increased/expanded on in the future.

Also who can put this forward as a serious suggestion - does it have to come via a breed club or can individuals put it forward?  This needs to be confirmed by the BC.

Have just looked at the BC website no details on past or future surveys, not really worth trying to change something that doesnt appear to happen

There is now detail on min requirements for survey

not very good etc etc etc

The next published surveys have been and gone (GSD National Magazine)

one was at the Heads of the Valley Show on 31/08/08 and the others was 01/09/08

They also have published the previous Survey Results from 06/07/08 - which consists of 14 dogs/bitches and all but 1 got a class 1.

Reason, if my memory serves me correctly, the following was what was on the survey sheet  dentition, Hip score, gun shot test, general construction, wither, croup, height, eye colour, pigmentation, tail length, gait, hind quarters, coat, forward reach, shoulder placement, expression, strength, feet, nail colour.  Oh! someone help me.. it was a long time ago when I had my last one surveyed.  I still have all the survey sheets but they're still packed away since I sold my last house.

Perhaps somebody could have a look at theirs, (survey sheet) copy the basic format with the new suggestions & post it?  If we all agree, this could be what we send to the KC/BC?

by reason on 03 September 2008 - 18:09

This is not a BC bashing post but surely in these days of internet and web based information the following should be available from their web site

Criteria for entry to a survey event ie Health age paperwork etc

Criteria for the grade acheived / failed at

A schedule of future events

Records of previous events

As non show person with a titled working GSD who has had all the health tests(i am assuiming that) there is nothing to help/encourage me to get him surveyed

by beepy on 03 September 2008 - 18:09

Reason - there doesnt seem to be much to encourage people to get their dogs surveyed.  The only reason I can think of at the moment is if I wanted to enter a mature dog/bitch in the British Sieger.
