 Hi Julie

We all know you are out there reading what everyone is saying about you. We would all love to hear what you have to say about all of this!!!!!! But as we all know your to CHICKEN SHIT to ever say anything, your to busy blowing the judges ,breaking tails, and bathing to a nice rich black and red. What would really be refreshing is if for once you came to a show and showed your dogs straight up!!!!! No dying no pinch collars no ASS kissing. HAHAHAHA we know that wont happen do you even remember how to show a dog without cheating??????

I've been out of the show circuit for quite a while (a few years, which is a long time to be away for me because I do enjoy it) so this conversation is very interesting to me, I was a youth (prob 15) when I started showing and showed into my early 20s (25 now), I showed WDA/USA regionals and siegershows.  I did always have a great time with my animals as well as learning, observing and handling but I noticed that people seemed to be VERY rude and VERY bitchy.....there was always some middle aged overweight lady snickering in some corner or making rude comments to my face on my CHURCH dress at a judges dinner (soooo sorry for showring; dirty dog sweatsuit/flannel are MUCH more appropriate!!!).  LOL I will always remember that; I was young, sweet and quiet so I said nothing, but it did discourage me and made me resent the club that held that show.....  Here is a fact of life about any showring: the judge may or may not share your type or opinion on structure or character, in the USA/WDA or SV its one old German dude's opinion....if you don't like it, show under someone else!   At the end of the day your dog should still be num one in your book, mine always were :)  If a breeder's practices or what you think they may be or the type of dogs that they have don't match what your ideals are, then don't buy dogs from them!  Thats just that!

BTW, workingline dogs are overly driven ankle biters that are handler aggressive and will eat your small animals and possibly children and never calm down in the house.  Is this true......NO its not!  Its a generalization and it is untrue. (Although some are! I have met some, multiple SchH3s, "V" scores and all, great bitework on the sleeve and on the handler when a correction is given).  You cannot generalize "MOST" showdogs to have poor abilities for work, depends on the trainer, the helper and the amount of effort put into making the title.  Most have no time put into titles at all.  Most are sent away, who knows what happens there.

Overall, I think you have to enjoy the showring, enjoy time with your animals and enjoy training with your animals....otherwise WTF is the point.  Stop being judgemental and critical of others, it is NOT anybody's place to do so (with the exception of the judge, thats just on the dogs exhibited! ), just enjoy your time!

I will be in the showring again this year with my two new pups from my current breeding, should be fun....I'm neither quiet, sweet not shy at this point :)

And what about our wonderful National Beed Waden Tim Burke, using an E-Collar durig the bitework practice with his working line sable dog.   I understand pictures were taken and will be published soon.

What do the rules say about this?????

Anyone care to comment??

You can use  pinch collars and ecollars during the practice phase before the official start of the event.

You can read the rule for yourself here:    http://www.germanshepherddog.com/documents/EBallots-2007.pdf

by TessJ10 on 09 June 2010 - 13:06

You can?  Any event?  Club level, or just big events like this?

by schutzhundfan on 09 June 2010 - 13:06

This is what the rules say  from the ballot, but motion was withdrawn and not voted on.

As of November 1, 2007, at USA-sponsored national, regional and club events (performance trials, breed
shows, breed surveys, herding trials) there shall be no aggressive training devices (i.e., prong collars, electric
collars, etc.) carried by the handler or worn by the dog at any time after the official start of the event within
100 yards of the boundaries of the event stadium/trial field and/or tracking fields as designated by the hosting
club. The only collar or tracking harness allowed will be as stipulated in the USA Rulebook or by USA.
Failure to observe this restriction will result in punitive action: immediate disqualification for unsportsmanlike
conduct from the event and possible expulsion from the event site, if deemed necessary. This
enforcement shall be the sole responsibility of the judge(s) at the event.
The official start of a national or regional event is defined as the first official day of any phase of competition
and ends with the event’s closing ceremonies.
The same 100-yard rule will be in effect at club events from the beginning to the end of competition each
day.
During the training/practice phase at all USA-sponsored national, regional, and club events (performance
trials, breed shows, breed surveys, herding trials), aggressive training devices will be allowed at the event
stadium/trial field and/or tracking fields before the official start of the event, but may not be used there or at
any other location to a degree that they could be construed as abusive in any way. This also covers any type of
abusive training or behavior inflicted with any type of device or actions, which could be demonstrated by
demeanor that shows the dog is under undue stress other than that which comes from normal trialing.
The training aspect of events such as training seminars of any kind will be the responsibility of the hosting
club, and that responsibility must not be taken lightly.

So what you quoted was withdrawn and not voted on?  So it doesn't apply.  What DOES apply?  What do the rules say now?

Tess,

A competitor was DQ'd and disciplined a few years ago for using the e-collar (and abusively) in the stadium during the North American. Lyle Roetermeyer filed the BOI charges as USA president. Another thing I have verified from the SS: a dog that was not shown (was taken off the field, after being put in ~"2nd ring", never rated or placed, was awarded one of the performance awards. How is that possible, if the dog was NS? Even if the judge excused the dog for some reason, wouldn't not being shown preclude a performance award? It certainly would in a trial (pull after tracking for some reason, you don't get High Tracking trophy, even if you got 100 pts.). And yes, I have confirmed the dog left the ring with the SS sehow secretary and the award was made during ceremonies afterwards. How is my question.

by TessJ10 on 09 June 2010 - 14:06

Well, of course e-collar abuse should DQ and discipline a competitor.  But my question is not about abuse, but use.  E-collars are not by definition abusive.  Can you use an e-collar on the grounds?  Club, regional, national - all the same rules?  Can it be used but only "before the official start"?  And what is the official start?  When they get to stadium, or 6am at the tracking field?

As to your second example, ya got me.  Was that at the show that just took place, or at another SS?
