@Duke

No, lol, Absolutely not! They are the first ones who will then start the mantra that IPO podium dogs are nothing but mediocre without their trainers and that they'll know what they like better than the next person. All without having to be measured by others in any sort of minimum standard venue. Of course they will also brag loudest about those titles when they put the sell on to potential puppy buyers. And the newbies will be duly impressed!

...@BAV, I gotta run off now, but will comment more, later.

If I had a magic wand I would want my GSD to be more like Lord v Gleisdreieck or his soon Alk v Osterberg quell . They are in his lineage but would have loved to meet them.

"Sport" dogs are shit
"Real" working dogs are shit

Why are so many of you so nasty on the forums? Why can't you just have some interesting, informative discussions. I'm glad that I lived in a time when people were civil to each other and enjoyed sharing ideas.

It's more entertaining to newbies if there's drama mixed in with all the information provided. Just add popcorn!

Bav,

Yes, what you call the "Gap in information" is what I called, the learning curve to interpreting research. Caveat Emptor. So, I would have to disagree that newbies shouldn't be expected to correspond/follow a breeder for years. That was always my error in thinking!

When a pet person wants a new puppy because they have a hole in their heart from the loss of their dearest companion dog, those silent hallways are suddenly, just too much! If a breeder relationship was never cultivated, then the vulnerablility for trusting an "expert" called a "breeder" gets mixed up with their impatient desire, it makes them an opportunist's dream of exploitation.

In a perfect world, it should not be that way. The newbie buyer will usually pay for their education, one way or the other.

The apprentice breeder needs to show the mentor that his time is not wasted and they deserve his sharing the sweat and hours they have expended to gain their expertise. They do that by putting in their own time.

You might find this thread I found from days gone by interesting, it has some old voices, discussing some of their old tricks of the trade.

http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/community.read?post=507331-importing-puppies-might-be-getting-harder-here-soon&p=3

In five years some new breeders who some call "greeders", who don't title, who don't evaluate through some type of rating system, will have puppy pedigrees full of dogs with no achievements, and no CAPTIAL letters next to their names. They can't make the easy sell without those titles up close, so they have a kennel sale, or ... importing an IPO 3 adult might just be a cost effective choice to solve that problem as it continues to legitimize what "they like". By that time, if they've managed to make profits and last in the biz for say ten years, then just saying they've been breeding that long gives them an instant expert claim! What newbie buyer is going to contradict that... evidence?

Of course, one needs to be reminded that even though one might graduate as a Dr., not all are at the top of their class!

My perfect dog. Magic wand would give her better elbows and make her 8 years younger.

Another I'd consider near-perfect (and his owner would agree).

I wish I was computer saavy enough to upload the pictures of my perfect dogs.  It is a wonderful thing how versatile the GSD is.  Everyone has such different ideas of what an ideal dog is and everyone has their ideal dog ...a GSD!  It just can't get better than that!

by vk4gsd on 07 January 2017 - 00:01

Actually this is considered by many as the main reason for the problems in the breed today;
