would an spca ever stage a photo shoot?  nope never would happen.  Is everything on the internet fact?  yep ask the French model.  Would the news media ever sensationlize anything?  Nope that also has never been done.  Would a person with a steller reputation ever be other then what people might think?  Nope not gonna happen.   Many people on this board who I have great respect for are coming to conclusions with out all the facts.  We will never have all the facts, we are totally dependent on the information that others are spreading.   It may be exactally as portrayed or it could be if we truly knew all the facts we might be more understanding.  Who knows for sure?  I sure don't.  I would have a hard time understanding how such a situaltion could occur.  but that doesn't mean it couldn't.  Would I ever stack crates?  No but I didn't see any pictures that showed that either.   Did I look at all the pictures?  No, and not because I don't care.  I do. I just don't think I will ever know all the facts.  I refuse to comment on matters that there is no way I would ever know.  If the facts come out otherwise a person could look rather foolish.

No one knows the reasons, but my opinion is the reasons don't MATTER to the dogs who were living like that. I think Dawn initially had good intentions as I said previously. I believe the conditions are the result of a hoarding disorder. Unfortunately...I have experience with this. Hoarders are dangerous not because they're inherently bad people, but because their perception is so out of touch.

I cannot stand the "rescue agenda" that is so prevalent nowadays. However, I also cannot stand people giving all breeders a bad name and fueling the fire, thus furthering the AR rights' hold on society. Every time something like this happens, the AR activists win just a little bit. As breeders and dog enthusiasts, we need to STEP UP and take responsibility for our animals and make sure that they are never in a situation like this. Ever.

And btw...I totally believe people stage and over-dramatize photographs.  The problem with the innocent until proven guilty approach is that SHE ADMITS IT. I asked Dawn if she was saying they were staged and they didn't look like that. She said she wasn't living there and that the house looked "poor" because of 21 hours without care. Um, no. That does not happen in 21 hours.

I have my own. I have fosters. I know my limits and they are nowhere near 40 dogs. Pups or not.
How one can stomach to put any dog back in a crate that has even been soiled just once....is beyond my comprehension!
I have larger yards that they can play in. Most of them get crated at night to eat and sleep in peace. The rest of the time they are guarding the couch or are outside in the large dog yard or the large outside runs. When the weather is bad, hot or cold, they are inside.
I don't go places for long periods of time and when I have to, I call in friends. Very simple.
This is unbelievable and nasty.

As far as any of the reporting on the news, people jump to conclusions, speak out of term because they are angry. Rescues and Humans Societies are overworked and understaffed for the most part and are often quite passionate. So what transpired there is to be seen. When I loaned a horse to a friend, she managed to get her confiscated several years later unebknownst to me. He was seized and awared to a rescue before I found out. I had the paperwork to identify him as mine and along with several vets who are in and out of my house all the time, we got him back. Neither lawenforcement nor the rescue talked to me nor did they have to as to them I was non existent. It was handled through the vets. Once the actually got the details, they were more than happy to have me come and get my horse as they really do not need any more mouths to feed and are grateful for an owner to actually stand up and do the right thing. But they did not have to.

Working with dog rescues I see people always trying to "secure" breeding animals for backyard breeding programs. It is sad. So yes, when a case like this goes public, there will be vultures. And because of those jerks, true owners or people intersted in actually adopting one of those "prized" animals (which I am not so sure about that as it looked like at least one had soft ears) maybe treated with caution. Most lawenforcement I know also does not work showline shepherds. As far as the fast adopting out of animals if they are not looking good....around here, animals are often released to rescue fosters to allow faster healing. That does not mean they are in permanent homes. So maybe someone used the wrong term. Owner surrenders by the way, are also first on the euthanasia list as they do not require the mandatory holds that strays do to allow owners to come and reclaim them. So if she signed the dogs over....they were available for euthanasia as well as adoption. No shelter is a place for a dog with challenges to heal. So, do I know the facts of this case. Nope, I have not even read anything on it than this thread.

But I find the situation these animals were forced to live in atrocious and nauseating!

Reggie, I am known for a weak stomach. Go ahead and look. It is foul and nausiating for most clean living people, but the evidence will not put you into Post Traumatic Stress Disorder syndrome.

She did feed them amid the filth.

Abuse is abuse you can paint it pretty pink and spin it how you want but it still is abuse.

This entire situation is sad, heart renging and confusing. The pictures told a huge story but maybe not the whole story. I would hope for the best outcome for the dogs and hope that those that presented themselves as "caring" about the dogs are just that. If a judge orders these dogs to be a legal siezure and eligible for adoption also does so with a madatory spay and neuter on ALL the dogs. I hope that I do not see any future abuse with dogs such as Dante (AKC reg # 31251701 microchip #151609330A) used for breeding in any claims after the siezure. Ms. Tank although I applaud your intentions, I will be watching this case to make sure you did not take advantage of an opportunity. If the SPCA if given the court order to place these dogs for adoption I would hope it should also be ordered to do so spayed / neutered. NO one walks away from this able to succeed except for the dogs. The entire GSD world will be watching and you need only research catologs and such to find the information.

Dawn you are correct, every person deserves their day in court to defend the charges and allegations bought against them. i sincerely hope you are getting the care and help that you need, no psych here but i do think you are in denial about some things regarding the condition of your dogs and the beleif you can provide adequate care for that many without full-time help.

hope some good can come of this and i hope you and the dogs can heal.

@sitasmom are you nuts,  just because A is worse than B does not necessarily make B good, especially in your example.

@rtmcintyre you ARE commenting, give it a break.

by momma on 24 February 2014 - 02:02

Mr. Geck, are you still willing to adopt Dante if he is neutered?
