Do what you do, it doesn't affect the breed one way or another. Be comfortable with what you've accomplished and don't worry about what others think of you. Personal attacks on others for speaking abstractly...sad that you took it so personally, must not be comfortable with what you're doing if someone you don't even know, speaking abstractly, hurts your feelings that bad.
It's funny how no matter how high someone gets in sport, they're destroyed and dismissed for not knowing anything. Yet you place one police dog, or have trained one at some point in your life decades ago, and you're considered some sort of GSD god.
"The ones who spew the most trash talk, know the least" - funny how you're the ONLY one that has talked trash in this whole thread.

You went on this huge tirade for?
No one mentioned anything about you or your dogs......but you became so defensive.

by kitkat3478 on 06 January 2017 - 14:01
Yous talk SMACK about everyones dogs, NO dogs are breed worthy, no test is adequate....
I DID NOT train my dog to do police work, thats not my credit. I just happen to like this breed and I think there are more than plenty of good German Shepherds out there. Some of you are just never satisfied with the breed, or the breeders.
And Minutha...go find a couple more of your acquaintances dogs that need saving. Your a stand alone joke. BW..whatever. I do love my dogs and I KNOW they are great. I certainly ain't looking for your approval of nothing..you to ashamed to even show what you got,
peop[le like you are just compulsive Whiners....
And damn, do you even have a dog, seems like your HERE, everyday, morning, noon and night teaching the rest of us , I guess,
Do you spend time with your dog, I know BW, your breeding kennel...i forgot

Quote where I said a single negative thing about any dog in particular. Go nuts. Come on...it's on the internet, I can't delete it, quote it.
I'm very satisfied with what the breed is...one of your "approved people to talk" (Gustav) is the one that is usually doing the breed bashing as a whole. I DO understand and accept where he's coming from...you can’t just go to a decent looking GSD breeder and get a dog that works anymore. For those of us involved in the breed…we can easily find dogs which will work and understand what to look for. But for others, it’s almost impossible to guarantee any kind of STANDARD of work.
What you missed in what I was saying is that for every KitKat who has the pudding to back up his claims…there are 20 breeders spewing the same verbiage without the pudding to back it up. That is what makes it impossible to figure out which breeders are truly breeding correct dogs, and which ones aren’t. It’s extremely easy to tell the stories you do and hang your hat on…and you should be proud of your accomplishments, but the things you say are difficult to prove or disprove, and so other breeders can just as easily make the same exact claims without having actually done it. The information gap between the consumers and the suppliers is way too big. Without a minimum standard, tested for by objective judges, anyone can make any claim they want about how they test their dogs and no one can say a thing about it.
You’ve shown some cute pictures of your dogs…I guess that’s all the proof the people on this forum need of “working ability.”

Bav,
KitKat is a "her" not a "him". She tried going the Schutzhund club route, to her credit, but it was not a great experience for her for whatever reason(s) to want to continue. She did give it shot, so I give her credit for trying to back up the talk by doing the walk. That is a step more than most. She has her Bullinger foundation dogs and now her Bomber daughter which are usually considered decent stock in the looks and working ability categories by most keyboard breeder/warriors. She backs this up with satisfied repeat LEO customers who are happy to accept her donations.
She lives in the boonies and has shared stories of deadbeats--- including relatives creating drama that make her glad to have a pack full of brave hearted dogs. Also, having owned and trained a lion gets her a nod to some training or handling credit also, IMHO
She cares that her dogs go to good homes and is always willing to help rescues, too. She still misses Wuzzup, her sister who died too young and took on caring for her pack of dogs when she passed.
If she used all caps it wasn't just this conversation that drove her defensive use, it is likely something was stirred that brings up a much farther past.

I also understand your point that the newest breeder wannabes all too often will co-opt the talk and never bother with the walk.
It is also true that the most costly dogs will go to the least experienced or lesser connected in the dog world.
It takes time to break into that circle and keyboard credibility is just about the slowest way to do that. Most new breeders will be out of business in five years.

Here's the nice thing about GSDs. The number of well educated, experienced trainers match the % of well bred German Shepherds. The number of uneducated, inexperienced trainers match the % of poorly bred German Shepherds.
When the inexperienced, poor trainers become experienced and good trainers, it will make less of a need for the poorly bred German Shepherds.
Sadly, the inexperienced, poor trainers probably believe their dogs are breed worthy. Why wouldn't they? Tons of people say they're pretty, you love showing off their picture, and they do bark when people go by the house or car.

While you expect that keyboard breeders go out of business…they don’t. They might not charge “good dog prices” anymore, but they can keep doing it. Some “know enough to be dangerous” and will get bottom level, no need to train for titles and throw those in customer’s faces as proof. Or take puppy money and import titled stock, breed it, keep those titles there, no one can tell the difference. I know enough “newbies” that get fantastic reviews, have followings on Facebook and other forums that established breeders can only dream of. Why? Gap in information. Their word about their dog’s ability is the same as the word of someone else that is established in the eyes and ears of a novice just looking for a family pet… A good salesman, can be a great breeder…people have an excuse (reason) for everything, and can spin it anyway we want to make it sound great to the novice out there…
