 What people? Your people or my people? And why can you not leave things to a person? Do you believe that the person is too stupid and government is smart?  Show me the proof. You mean my insurance is a "PEOPLE" business? How come? And what about my and your personal freedom, and responsibility for my own actions? Why do you think you or people know what is best for me, the individual?

That means the government needs to protect individual freedoms and rights. Not Majority or "Peoples" right against individual. That whould be communism. Trust me I have been there.

Traf and Ron,

For what it's worth, here's my take.  I look at most of the leftist politicians and I don't see that compassion.  I see people who understand that they can maintain power through promoting classism, racism, and ignorance.  i.e.  If most liberal politicians were interested in the welfare of the inner city populations, they would be screaming,stomping, jumping up and down, and demanding school vouchers or a system that creates competition by allowing a student to apply tuition that is already being spent on him/her to another school.  But instead, they encourage the status quo all the while insuring us that it is they who really care about the poor.  They develop programs not to promote long term success, but to promote long term constituents (read as poor people).  I don't believe this is true of all liberal politicians.  I think that some, like Hillary Clinton, are truely motivated by what they believe is their moral obligation.  The left likes to accuse the right of legislating morality with drug and prostitution and abortion legislation, but then turns around and justifies theft from one group on moral grounds.  And if you call them on it, you must be a racist.  This is why I think it's noteworthy that MSNBC, a major cable "news" network, would purposely edit the race of a protester at an Obama rally for the sole pupose of crying racism.  And this from a network who has a "news show" host that says that Fox News is only for crazies and haters!  That story should have led every newscast and headline in the country to expose the fact that you can no longer trust others to be objective.  Ron you say it has to be collective will.  However,  precisely because the government should not be involved in making moral judgements, the government cannot be efficient in determining the best way for charity dollars to be spent.  Lost your job through no fault of your own?  Here's some money.  Lazy, don't want to work?  Here's some money.  Had another baby whose father's name does not appear on the birth certificate?  Here's some money.  Can't stay sober long enough to find a job?  Here's some money.  And all we expect in return is a vote.  If we all agree that there is a moral duty to provide charity, then we have only to determine if the government should have its own morality.  If so, whose version of morality should that be?  The obvious answer is mine, of course.  Oh, or maybe Raymonds.  Here's an interesting link for your consideration.  www.jewishmediaresources.com/1048/who-really-gives   Wow, that's a load off =-O

Ok lets talk facts, the government can't run the post office, DMV, or social security.  They sent stimulus money to prison inmates.   they can't run ANYTHING without f*cking it up!  They need to keep their hands off our healthcare!

I haven't seen a mass protest in the USA about anything in almost 35 yrs. Other countries that feel threatened by big Gov't protest....march....shut down business...get shot...pelted....hosed....high powered water cannons....where are you guys/gals....on computers...spreading the big bad Gov't story.....! When the hell did the left become black......amazing!!

PEOPLE.....poor people have stolen my prosperous USA....too many handouts......looking at just what happened to wall street and you're still talking economy....as we print more worthless money....EVERYBODY is poor!

People on the right are showing up en mass to protest what's going on, but again, the "objective" media has relegated them to the status of a few crazy, tin foil hatters or obvious racists.  You know this.  I'm sure I could post links.  The left is not overwhelmingly black, but blacks are overwhelming left.  That's a fact.  Who are the people to which you referred if not the government?

RFS....that's absolute BS...You didn't see the people of the right protesting when Bush was ruining the country...Oh that's righ...they were out in mass:-( If the right were out in mass there would'nt be a need for the media...because we'd all know it! So what if blacks are overly left....what great position of wealth or power do they hold? As much as I am overjoyed by Obama's victory...(it was instrumental for the young black men I raise to see it happen) I KNOW he is a fiqure head for whomever! I could care less what color you are....shit comes in all colors! Left media...right media...all here to distract! You poor sheep...just waiting for the next ass shaving. I can't remember when we weren't in debt....every country is in debt. It was the PEOPLE who stood up to end numerous wrongs in or country in every country..not the gov't!
