This is unfortunately a statement made by someone who has clearly not met many sport or PP dogs and doesn't really understand what those dogs are like. This is the belief that comes from someone who sits on the internet reading other people's opinions, many of which come from people who also have never had an excellent sport or PP dog and enjoy bashing those that have those kinds of dogs due to jealousy, lack of understanding, and lack of real life experience with those kinds of dogs. Sad when people who claim to be supporters of the original breed standard and live by every word that Max wrote are so against working dogs.

If you read my post again more carefully BW you will see that I am more "against" some of the people involved in the working of dogs, not against 'working dogs' in themselves.

You are sailing very close to the wind again with your nastiness - so close I may decide to break my own rule and do what you once accused me of always doing: complain that your post is 'abusive' to the Admins. [It would be a First, so you'd at least be able to claim a Record & Personal Best.]

Because all dogs just naturally stop you from walking into traffic, thats why they never get hit by cars.
They also totally brace and counter balance you. Come on man... give me a break. There are plenty of tasks that do not come naturally to a dog. I can see clearing a room with shepherds and Mals... detection absolutely, retrieving is another one but most dogs would never pick up metal or copper if they don't have extreme drives. It's not natural for a lot of dogs to retrieve metal or copper items and those dogs that do it, they are too high drive for the job.
I've yet to see a dog that naturally just hits the light switch or closes a door. Opening a door, yep. Seen plenty of dogs learn by watching and figuring it out by themselves, but closing a door? That's not natural for a dog.

Do they have fun learning and doing it? Of course. But it's still not natural behavior for a dog to close a door, turn on and off light, bracing, balancing etc.

I agree with you, BM, it is a good thing that some people want to keep the dogs, and therefore their genetic potential, in your country.     To give up the opportunity to make some good $ in order to see what genetic strengths are within that dog's lines is a sign of a true GSD enthusiast.

I have had great working dogs for eternity, always sound and solid in breed type and never grown towards mongolized dogs, I truly don't understand that comment or see the need to have to go in that direction for great working dog with excellent breed type.

There isn't a 'need' to 'mongrelize' to get "great working dogs with excellent breed type"... unless you are someone who is more concerned with their own image than with the breed as a whole.

There are people posting and lurking here who are convinced that the whole GSD breed should be produced AND tested to meet their expectations of what they think are "good enough" working dogs;

whether their chosen arena is IPO, PSA/PPD, KPNV, whatever.

They do not just want dogs that reach maximum points, they want dogs that get ever harder and ever faster and ever 'grippier', and they justify that by claiming that is how the GSD breed "should be".

Worse, they often denigrate the understanding of others who do not agree that the whole breed needs to go that way.  Nothing done anywhere else in the breed is correct, according to them; in fact they are always claiming that what is done elsewhere in the breed is detrimental to maintaining the sort of dog they want.

So, fine - let them go their own way and let American "working lines" end up like half the dogs with KNPV people in other countries, competing with crossbreeds.  JUST LEAVE THE REST OF US TO GET ON WITH GSDs, (in ALL fields), WITHOUT THE CONSTANT CARPING !

Yes of course its an excellent example for someone to set, to pass up on the almighty dollar, in order to continue with their own breeding ideas. It would be, whatever the kennel, whatever the lines in use.
