Rabies being brought into US by "rescued" strays....puts the squash on foreign breeders....more like "ouch to exporters". As for not being able to bring in new blood, adult, titled dogs are sought for that role.

joanro....

Rabies has always been here. Not from rescues out of the country, especially at that tender age, too. They'd never make it past customs, is another hurtle.

I don't think so! LOL We will never know for sure!

Bee, I know its always been here. But rescues coming from foreign countries have had rabies and exposed ne w owners. Its called incubation period....the period between contraction of the disease and becoming symptomatic. So customs is no hurdle at all....that's why there are quaranteens for animals exported from US to island countries and Hawaii. Customs just hasn't gotten that good yet to scan a pup and determine if it is carrying the rabies virus. :-)
Plus the only way to diagnose rabies is to cut the animals head off and take out the brain, customs is squeamish about that. Lol

How old do human kids have to be sent over here SICK?

Although I agree with the age restrictions because of the stress factor on young puppies, I don;t think that it will stop sick puppies from being imported.  A puppy that may seem healthy and get a health certificate at the time of shipping could still possibly be sick with no visiable symtoms even at 6 months old. Therefore the chances of a sick puppy being imported are the same, only difference is he will be older.
