Grapes and Raisins - Page 2

How interesting that this should come up on the forum right now! I just went through an almost disaster this weekend! My 19 year old son, Josh, fed our pups 2 boxes of raisins! I didn't know anything about it, until I found two piles of what looked like black bugs :) in throw up in the puppy kennel! I looked all over and found lots of yucky throw up. I then got really worried, my one puppy slinking around with her ears down (she's 4 months) and being lethargic. I took her in the house and watched her for awhile. She was not herself at all. Then I told my family we have a sick puppy and Josh said "I just fed them raisins this morning"! I said OH MY GOSH! Don't you remember raisins and grapes are toxic to dogs?!!!!! argh! So, I got on the net and looked this up, one article said that 1.5 oz of grapes per 10 lbs of body weight is considered toxic. These pups had just eaten two boxes of 12 oz each! I was so concerned. Anyhow, to make a long story shorter, she is just fine! I gave her some pepto and Amforal and she got over it very quickly. If she hadn't thrown then up she may have been a very dead puppy :( A raisin or two or a grape or two does nothing, but please be very careful guys! Especially, tell your KIDS! Peggy

Peggy, first of all i am glad your pup is ok. Maybe Josh thought your pups are vegetarians ;-)! But i bet he did with the best intensions. My last female i had used to go into the vinyard and eat them right of the plant ! I had to tell her to stop, otherwise she would have eaten as much as she could. I did not like that idear .... meaning less vino for me ! Just kidding ! Regards Ulli
