Katie your puppy looks absolutely fine, I have a 7 month old GSD and he weighs 35k and he is not fat. They are all individuals just like we are. Your pups height is fine, he has another inch to grow for standard size and 2 inches for top standard. If you think he is right for weight then leave him be, as long as he is happy and healthy, I do not agree one bit with having him thin hes a puppy and he needs food and nutrition for growth. They all grow at different rates some shoot up in height and then stop, others grow steady, others put weight on easily others dont. Dont over do the exercise as his young bones and muscles need time to develop and strengthen, so many people ruin good pups with to much to soon. Enjoy him like someone said he wont be a puppy for long. Good luck with him.

Goldie12
Thank you so much that made me sigh a sigh of relief. I take him on a walk once a day and he plays with my border collie mix (12 yrs old) and then we work on training. But I love my little goofball so much I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could for him. He's already figured out how to open the door to my garage and is now trying it on all the doors in my house. I want him to gain just a little more weight but I've heard male GSD's have a harder time gaining it. Thanks again for helping me feel better about what I'm doing with him!

Goldie, a puppy kept thin will still grow properly as long as they're getting the proper nutrients.  No reason to keep him plump or fat as thats just not good on the joints or hips while they're growing.  Not to mention once an adult, a thin dog, is a more ideal working dog.  How much endurance will a fat dog have compared to a thin dog? Probably not as much.

xkat7x,  you really should keep your pup thin. Not too thin,  but I would keep it about what "watsongsd" suggested.   And judging by the pictures.....it doesn't look like he needs to gain weight....

I'm not going to plump him up but I can still see more ribs and I think i should be able to just see the last one so I just want to put a little more on him that's all =]

Oh ok......Well, sitting pictures make it harder to tell his weight lol.  A picture from the side, of a dog standing is the easiest way to see the weight.

Yeah I couldn't get him to just stand still he thought I was playing a game haha

Don't worry about his weight, or feeling a rib, just feed him quality food. So long as his energy is high, and everything else is good.

My dog has decided he hates the camera. I can't get a close up anymore, he ruins it everytime.

Tell me, doesn't he want to eat the fish food? We can't keep ours in the house unless it is at least 6 ft off the floor.

If you look at a dog from the birds-eye view, you see the hourglass that is the preferred form for health.

When he was younger he got ahold of the fish food but ever since then he's left it alone and completely ignored it. He's now interested in chewing and trying to eat my computer cords, and he's obsessed with the cat food I have for my kitties. So we're working on "leave it" so hopefully he can ignore the cat food too.
