Nala sounds like my s/l male who I purchased for therapy work, he loves all people I can literaly take him anywhere even on acute psych units, he is a Daro Anseong son, oversize with a personality to match
he is brilliant with all pups and makes a good stooge dog with anxious/nervous dogs
If he is going to work he gets exicited about going but once there is calm & sociable
If I have workmen in the house I can introduce him to them then leave him loose with them
his prey drive is high but with high threshold, he is self confident with sound nerves, his defense drive will kick in if needed to defend me my other dogs or his friends from an attack
he can be mischievous but you know when he is in that mood by the glint in his eyes, infact I couldnt wish for a better family dog especially around my grandchildren

Donner & Wildmoor:  You are both describing the ideal personality that I am looking for.  To me, that is how ALL GSD's should be.  Any ideas where I could find a similar personality, call it working, show, I don't give a d- - - ;  just want that personality/termperament.  NAn

Nan that is my thought exactly, if I can find the right male I really wanted to breed Nala to a wl male to see if I could get that personality with everything I love about my wl guys.  Don't get me wrong my wl guys all have great personalities, I don't have any temperment flaws etc, but I notice with my wl guys they are very much the handlers dog.  They pretty much ignore the rest of the family and zero in on me.  If there is somebody new they don't really feel the need to go say hi they stay by mom.  If I say go make a friend they will go up and say hi but it's evident they don't care if you are there or not if you aren't mom.  Nala is just more laid back ready to play or do something if I want to but does not drive me crazy in the house on a day when it is too nasty to go something, she is content to gaurd the couch.  She has never shown any aggression to another dog even other bitches.  She is the one dog that all of my dogs love to play with.  I have used her several times when I had one in training that didn't seem to be getting an obedience concept, I would bring Nala out and have her do it to show them what I wanted. I just can't say how much I adore her.  I'll pm you with some info on where I got her.

I have exactly the same S/L female with me now, she is happy and "perky" and LOVES to play with so much drive that its almost funny at times. She loves everyone, gets along with all other dogs, has no envrinmental issues. She has ball drive, food drive, prey drive, desire to please and loves to make a joke. She is also very happy to chill on the couch. I'm working her in SAR and she loves it.

She looks A LOT like Nala. Didn't see any common dogs in the pedigree.  Nala's grandfather is Mark Vom Haus Beck who has Arminius blood lines.  I have no idea what that means, I'm trying to figure out which lines are known for that perky character.

Wildmoor the sire is a very pretty dog, has several dogs in common with mine, her pedigree isn't on here.  What were the reasons you decided on a dog out of those lines?

by Wildmoor on 18 September 2011 - 00:09

I wanted a dog with medium prey and defense but high threshold
the breeder sent me a copy of the ped, and I then viewed at 3wks, I went back when they were between 5-6wks to assess there were 2 males I was interested in and couldnt decide which, although I intended showing it wasnt the main criteria I wanted a fairly bold outgoing pup that could be molded to work with people whom had dissabilities
after my previous dog who had high defense low threshold, i wanted to do something different, I had already picked up a juvenile who was an obedience prospect and this pup seemed ideal to do therapy work with

turned out I picked right he is 100% around people even if they display bizarre behaviour, he has worked with 2 individuals long term 1 who had severe Learning dissabilities and rapid cycling Bi-Polar and associated challenging behaviour who has since passed away, the other person has severe Learning Dissabilities and Autism and after he spent a year with her she went on to get her own dog, he has visited several different acute psychiatric wards the patients think he is great, he is also a registered Blood donor

and like I have said before once I have introduced him to work men I can leave him loose in the house with them whilst I go out, unfortunately after an accident last year he had to under go a TTA whilst at the Ortho vets the surgeon said it was nice to meet him as not only was he handsome and actualy looked like a GSD but he was neurotic like most of the GSDs she sees - which were predominately English lines

If I ever took on a rescue it would only have to be a 100% WG s/l
