Shelley - thanks for asking.
She is doing a lot better. She must feel better because every time we go outside for a potty break, she brings me her ball. Of course I can't play with her because we have to keep her inactive for another couple of weeks. The vet doesn't want us to take her anywhere due to the complication of the surgery. We are still waiting for the pathology report. It is taking much longer than expected. The vet is very hopeful that the tumor is benign. Anyway, Cloey had her stitches out last Friday and is acting good as new.
On another note, we had to put her on an expensive antiobiotic for some type of bacterial infection she has had for a while in her respiratory system. This was something we had our regular vet check out several times and they kept saying it was allergy related. Well, during her tumor surgery, they swabbed her nose and grew a very resistant bacteria so we are trying to get rid of it now. She is one tough dog and I am super hopeful that she will pull through all of this!

Just read this post for the first time - that is very good news! it may be that you saved vital time going straight to the hospital so no point worrying about the cost now. Where I live the cost would be much, much less, but then the vets have far less experience and facilities. Several years ago my female who was then only 3 became sick and lethargic, we discovered her spleen was 20 times the normal size! The vet thought it was going to be hemangiosarcoma and we were devastated. As he had not done a splenectomy before he put her on strong antibiotics in a small cage (to avoid activity and possible rupture of the spleen) while we waited for the pathology results, meanwhile he practiced a splenectomy on a euthanized dog! To the vets amazement it was not cancer, but a severe inflammation and by the time the results came back the spleen had already reduced in size. We still have this girl, she is 8, had two litters and still behaves like a puppy herself, no recurrence ever. At that time I read a lot about spleen problems and learned that although everyone suspects hemangiosarcoma and that is very bad news, there are a lot of benign tumors as well....
I hope your dog makes a full recovery and can soon play with her ball again....

hanshaw, isn't that one of the sweetest words in the English language:

BENIGN!

I'm soooo happy for you and your girl--this calls for a celebration, surely!
