Ha! I saw a breeder selling solid blue longcoat GSD pups for $5k a piece. Snake breeders aren't the only ones making bucks!

You can say that again!  The new generation of pit bull owners (who have, actually, most likely never even SEEN a real American pit bull) are morphing the breed into short, blue, purple, lavender, little hippos. And yeah, they get $3000 for them! To each his own.

Snakes are cute. The pied is beautiful!

I'm going to start a brindle patterned mongoose breeding program, and hope that catches on.

I have a blue GSD, as some of you may know from my previous ramblings on here. Asides from being the apple of my eye, her breeder does not breed to make profit from his blue pups.
They've turned up in the 3 litters he's bred so far (1 blue from 4 pups, 3 from 5, and 1 from 5). He sells them for the same price as the other pups, has the same keen interest in all his pups regardless of colour.
That aside, the rescue shelters and pet stores have all said the same - pups are turning up in the most unusual colours, from purebred lines (or supposed purebred, we have a lot of BYB). It's sad people are making a quick buck from colours and the odd factor. I'm very much for my dogs having good lines, solid hips and elbows and a great temprement - colour is the bonus that makes your one special and unique to you.
The other blue pup from my girl's litter that I've met has a very different pattern on his face and is more solid along his sides compared to my girl, as she is more 'salt and pepper' speckled.

PS: I didn't choose her because she was blue, she chose me and wriggled her furry self into my heart! Couldn't resist those baby blues staring up at me.. :P

(A few people asked if these were my snakes *lol* I wish! My collection is much more humble, but here it is:

Two baby boas, born March 2010 from my female.
I kept them because one has a nice non-genetic stripe; and the other has a "C" in her saddle, which appealed to me for obvious reasons.
Names: "Carroll" and "Stripe"

Mother and Daughters
(not housed together, just put together for the picture)
Names: Halos (mother), Carroll, and Stripe

Two Normal Ball Pythons
Names: Tic (male, left) and Toc (female, right)

California Mountain Kingsnake
(a rare beauty: a Zonata!)
Name: Oz

A Sunglow Motley Corn Snake

(combination of Amel and Motley genetic traits, and selectively bred for vibrant colors)
Name: Sol-Chroma

Lavender Albino (aka Lavender-Banana) Kingsnake
(An albino kingsnake from lines selectively bred for the yellow and violet hues)
Name: Blizzard aka "Blizz"
