Shedding his winter coat- wear marks from barn owner leaving his halter on, but you can kind of see he has a weird facial structure even from the front- prominent "cheeks" but then very chiseled toward his nostrils. Weird. I like it, but it's weird. Tack never fits him right- very broad across the eyes and wide across cheeks, but short-faced and skinny around the nose. He wears cob or arab tack- horse size stuff is way too big for him. The people I bought him from SHAVED HIS ENTIRE MANE and cut his tail at the hocks. Also, they cut his forelock right across his eyes, like BANGS,lol. They said his mane was down past his shoulder and wavy. I could kill them. I've only had him a year and a half; it's grown a lot since then.

Another from last spring- shedding and scruffy, but you get the general idea;-)

This was just taken the other day- all scruffy w/his winter coat. See how he's not delicate but still has sort of a dishy short face? He looks different from different angles. He's more cute than beautiful.

You guys are to funny. I can tell who are the horse people and who aren't. I love the Gypsy Vanner.

Animules: Have heard they are hard to train. Never had one so don't know.

Used to have a 1/2 Arab  1/2 quarter horse. Best horse I ever owned. Qrtr body with Arab head and neck beautiful and way smart.

TWO MOONS FYI: Solid Appaloosa's place higher in the show ring than spotted (go figure). Also, $3,500.00 is a steal. This mare would be worth (and I am dead serious) $12-15,000.00 if her hocks were OK. As it is she would be a broodmare extraordinare. She is almost perfectly balanced with a beautiful gait.  I may be a novice GSD person but I have 30years experience in the horse industry with many championships under my belt. So I know what I am talking about.

I have seen "nothing" horses go for that much just because their temperament was gentle. 8 is young, too.

Animules- gaited mules or regular mules?

Sorry for hijacking your thread, Cheri.

 Jen,
He is beautiful. Built a lot like the Qtr/Arab I had. Are you sure he is cob? Looks more Arab to me. Wish I had some pics to show you.

 S' ok Jen.
Lucy was World Champion Appaloosa Hunter in Hand Mare in 2005. Was always in the top five at Appaloosa Nationals and the World Championships during her show career. Has had lots of training and can be shown, bred or just ridden for fun. Her grandfather multiple AQHA World champion and Congress Champion Luke At Me reportedly sold for $200,000. Now that's a lot of cash.

Nope- not sure. No papers. He was owned by a teenage boy- kept at his girlfriend's mom's barn. All the kids rode him. When they broke up, the kid disappeared and left Scout there and didn't pay his board. Mom said she wouldn't sue him for board if he'd sign the horse over to her. He did, but refused to come back w/his papers.  He's a registered Appendix, that much I know, and she said she thought it was Cob, but I have no proof. He's really heavy to be Arab. The Arab in Cobs makes more sense to me, both w/his build and his attitude, and other physical traits. He can be very "pony."  He's very sweet though- only 9 but acts 29. I'll never know for sure, I guess. He doesn't look at all like the Welsh ponies, but there are some Cobs that are very similar.

FWIW, I have seen a few Cob/QH crosses (sport ponies) that were VERY similar to him. Genes are funny things; you never know what is going to crop up in any given cross.  He could be anything, really. ;-) I bought him for other people to ride, mostly my mom, and hopefully my son someday.

It's hard to  sell good horses now, Cheri, isn't it? I know she has hock issues, but that's still not much money for her, from the sounds of her accomplishments. This economy sucks. I took advantage of it when I bought my Friesian; I never could've afforded one otherwise. He was just a baby, but still; they're not cheap. I tried to sell Scout, he must've caught wind of it, started acting lame during a pre-purchase inspection...LOL. . He hs some arthritis, but what was bothering him was thin soles on nasty rocky ground after a wet summer, so his feet were very tender and soft. Now I'm glad I decided to keep him instead of sell him cheaply. I worry about what happens to horses who aren't perfect and are sold too cheaply.

It's sad how many horses are being given away. A few months ago I had to go get a Clydesdale stallion someone left tied to a tree along a highway- with baling twine. They didn't have a halter that fit him so they tied baling twine around his face. Poor guy. Took 3 hours to load him. He'd been severely abused. Terrifed, but not at all aggressive. <sigh> I hate idiots and cruel people.

The horse market right now is in the pits...you can't give a good horse away.
I know I have some fantastic cutting horse bred horses and Missouri Foxtrotters for sale...I paid $8000 for a Doc O'Lena mare, with one year of professional cutting horse training on her,  and can't get $4000 for her now...
People are dumping them in the mountains out here for the wolves to eat...at least they/wolves will leave the elk alone then...LOL...
I have an awesome 16 H mule that I have turned down $10,000 for twice. Even with the economy and hardship I am in, no amount of money could buy this gal...<G>
SHE IS NOT FOR SALE!!!!
Oh well...
This thread is really hijacked!!!!

Me too.
I worry about who she could go to. But out here in the west we don't have many pastures and hay is expensive. A 65# bale of timothy sells for $12.50 and the same size Alfalfa goes for $7.50-8.50 a bale.  We have heard of people hauling horses out into the desert and just turning them loose where they die of thirst and hunger. One guy couldn't get a retired polo mare sold at auction so he took her out to the desert and shoot her nine times and left her for dead. She managed to get up and walk several miles to a ranch house. The people heard a noise outside and and found her.  She now lives with several bullets in her brain at  a horse rescue. Make me mad as H--- when I hear about animal cruelty and neglect. I know that there is a special place in H__ for people like this I just wish they could get there sooner. Sorry gets my dander up talking about this stuff.

Cheri,
I don't know if you would be interested or not, but I have a one yr old female smaller GSD in right now that is a real sweetie and willing to learn, very smart. catches on fast...her name is Gretchen on my website...I think with the right training of praise she could go far. She is not much to look at in terms of what I like to see in a GSD, but alot depends upon the trainer also. What part of the country are you in??? Sounds like the SW???
PM me or email me if you are interested. Not for trade, I have lots of nice dogs coming through here. Also have in a Malinois female, that I just love, name of Nola, great nose...
