LAVK-9

I am in AZ up in the mountains. There are mtn lions, bears, javalina, bobcats and coyote. There is no way I would leave my dogs out over night. It gets cold up here at night (30s) and my dogs could handle it but I don't care to go out to the kennel and see a mtn lion licking it's chops with a fat belly!!!  Besides that there are cars and in mation against a dog ...well they tend to win. I hate also when I walk my dogs on leash and some stray runs up to mine.I really don't want to deal with a dog fight!! Been there done that a few times!!! It just isn't right. Why have a dog if you aren't going to care for it.Same as people that have kids and let them run all over the place and don't have a clue as to what they are doing. That is the bad thing about being in this small town.Everyone knows each other and so they don't have to follow the rules. They will get a million warnings and nothing will be done.

Well I can say this, having worked in the dog pound, There is a good chance they would be adopted, purebreds and small dogs are normally pretty good candidates unless there are major heath or behavioral issues. I would call the spca for sure and have them deal with it.

Anymore word about the dogs outside?  What was decided that should done to help these poor guys.  I am beginnng to thinkg that when somebody goes to purchase an animal espcially thru a shelter, they should have a psychological exam.  Maybe that would stop some of the adbuse that goes on.

I worked in a shelter...When it was still a kill shelter.  I remember a few dogs that were regulars...They'd be adopted but they'd be back in a few days.  It was sad, but that's the way it was. Finally they'd be put down, because no one wanted to bother.  YEs, I agree that dogs shouldn't be just lawn ornaments.

But on the other side of the coin, our family vet (husbands uncle) pointed out something interesting to me once.  He said that back before everyone kept their dogs as housepets like we do today, there was far less separation anxiety and far less skin allergies.  He feels that a lot of the anxiety issues is because dogs are now kept in the house with their families all the time, and when alone, they can't stand it because they aren't adapted to it.

Makes sense to me, but regardless of whether you keep your dogs inside or out, they should spend plenty of time with you, and you need to do something with them...some kind of work.  Dogs are intelligent, need something to do to prevent boredom.  They aren't lawn ornaments, and they deserve better than that.

Calling Government is for pussies!!!! Talk to the owner and offer help if you care. County animal control will put these dogs compassionately (Or not) to sleep. I do not know about you, but I am rather cold then dead.JMO

Seven Dogs died over here in Limburg last Winter, they froze to death they were boxers and two Doberman they are not built to stand temps of Minus 18 degrees a sad case of stupidity of the owners thinking they could be okay in that sort of temperatures,
They had decent Kennels and were well looked after just a case of bad management I know two men were in tears when they found the dogs the next morning
Shepherds can stand it but but even they must have a good Kennel to curl up in, Problem with  my two is they will not have anything inside like Straw etc they pull it out you can hear them scraping it up and you can see it flying out of the opening into the pen
So they get just a Bare floor but it is Double skinned with a insulation in between the two layers of Plywood
I did put a Plastic Basket in for Izzy but she spent all day trying to get it through the opening into the Pen so that did not work

Unless you have a dog that simply won't be house broken or have like 10 dogs.  What is the problem or big deal with just letting them sleep inside.  I don't understan the way some people think.  They are pack animals and need to be around their people.  They need love just the way a child does.  I think it is very cruel to have a dog and to just leav it outside with very little to no interaction.   If you don't have time to give a dog that or want to then don't have a dog.

I agree.. All of mine go into the nursery or into the barn in shut down kennels anytime the weather goes to 32 or below..

They all have kennels , concrete, covered and dog house...do they stay in the dog house when it is 19*  NO

So i put them inside either place with a  heater in the nursery going low temp...and a heat lamp . one on in the huge barn...one night the pup  peed in his crate and the next morning it was frozen and he was laying on top of it... AND THAT WAS INSIDE THE BARN>>>>

I am the Wimpy...I wouldn't want to be all alone in  a cold kennel, wind blowing and ice hanging from my ears...

buckets frozen solid and no one around and spend 12 hours like that???????

I bring my bad boy pup and his mommie inside in the sun room with my two cockers who are in kennels at night also.(they are inside dogs)..
