So rant and rave to your hearts content! The economy is showing early signs of coming out of the worst down-turn in 80 years which began under Bush. You even have conservative economists seeing early signs of a recovery. Check out Larry Kudlow's column where he says:
"Let's call this what it is: A new bull market in stocks has emerged from the ashes of the financial meltdown and the deep recession that followed. And it's signaling the onset of economic recovery. Free-market capitalism is more durable, resilient, and self-correcting than its detractors would have us believe....................
And here's the economic deal: Businesses have made the necessary cost-cutting adjustments to jobs, salaries, and inventories to restore profitability. (My hunch is that businesses fired too many people when the credit roof fell in and the economic bottom fell out.) It's a classic, Austrian, Ludwig von Mises corrective to prices and production. As the economy rises, lean-and-mean companies will reap a profitable harvest. Profits are the mother's milk of stocks, business, and the economy. As profits heal, consumer incomes and spending will rebound....................
My guess is the economy will grow by 3 percent annually or slightly more in the second half of 2009 and the first part of 2010."

Of course, Kudlow has to pay lip service to the usual conservative criticism of Obama's economic policies but what else can he do?
One of the great buying opportunities in stocks was available late last year and the first quarter of this year ........................ and what did the naysayers do while this was occurring? They just moaned and griped about how the US was doomed ............. and they keep ranting about how "they want their country back" while opportunity passes them by.
Yes, there were those who lost their jobs and were having a hard time making ends meet .............. those are not the people I am referring to in the above comments.

I say this because - and I have posted this before - there was the same hostility to Clinton when he was president. One cannot forget the right wing rants about how the Clintons murdered or arranged for the murder of Vince Foster. As I have said previously, I think a lot of the hostility has to do with a fringe group within the Republican party - people I refer to as the "loonies" - cannot accept the idea of a Democratic president.
So their response, in this instance, has to be to undermine Obama with anything they can throw at him - like they did to Clinton.
Where I do agree with the OP is that these charges of "socialism" levelled against Obama are sheer nonsense. My question for those who are so repelled by "socialism" is this: what do they call programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc?
These are socialistic programs. Republicans who object to socialism in the US should seek to have these programs ended.

I will just say to you that when stocks were in a free fall last year before the elections, I posted repeatedly on this forum that I was gradually buying stocks. You can check out my postings from that time period if you wish. So this is not a case of being smart after the event.
At the time several people said that I was out of my mind to buy stocks because the worst was to come. I said my horizon was longer term and that I was willing to ride it out.
Now I will be honest and say that I never expected the type of recovery in stocks that we have seen in just a matter of months - but the returns that I have achieved have been nothing short of SPECTACULAR. I posted some time ago that we (my family) have never been better off financially than we are today. I meant it.
Fundamentally where I differ from the doomsayers is that I have total confidence in the future of the US, the resilience of our people and our capacity to adapt. This has NOTHING to do with Obama being president - it has to do with how I view this country and its people.
I hear a lot about how we are facing a potential insurrection because the average American is disillusioned and disgusted by what is happening in the country. This is more of the UTTER NONSENSE that is just spewed out by the right wing crazies. I have seen a time in this country when we came close to an insurrection - and we survived it. During the sixties, we had the civil rights turmoil, and the war in Vietnam which literally tore this country apart. We had the assasination of JFK, MLK and RFK in that decade. We survived all of that and came out of it stronger.
To realize that the racially segregated country that we had as recently as 40 years ago could actually elect an African-American as president because whites voted for him in sufficient numbers, is a testament to the greatness of this country.
I have not a shadow of doubt that we will come out of the present turmoil and will end up stronger and more resilient as a result.

With respect, don't display your utter ignorance of terms such as "socialism" and "communism" by posting such drivel!
