Kalibeck

by Kalibeck on 18 April 2009 - 02:04

The first time we took Kali across NJ from Pa to visit Carl's daughter, we stopped at a rest stop for a potty break. Kali was about that age, a little younger, not quite 4 months, & we met the Dork from hell. He followed my husband around the dog potty area, calling to her, trying to touch her, asking Carl "Will she bite? I'm good with dogs. Will she bite?" Now Carl has a standard answer for 'will it bite?'- he says, "She's got teeth, don't she? What do you think she uses them for? Of course she bites!" This guy would not back off. Poor little Kali, who has always been a stellar judge of character, finally whipped around, raised her hackles from tip of nose to the fur on her tail, tipped her head down & a little sideways, and growled. That was it for me, I walked over, picked her up & took her back to the car. Carl laughed at me, but my message was clear, I said, "you follow me with this dog, & I'll bite you!" I may have added some choice adjectives as well.....I was pissed. We had to stop further down the road so she could go....

Our dark sable Wolf gets called a Wolf by folks who don't know him, & my sables have been called wolves or coyotes. I could care less. If they seem like decent folks, I'm happy to offer explanations, but the usual ignoramus makes his wise cracks only until the dog looks at him. Then they usually change their tune. By that time we are usually on our way......jackie harris

GSDguy08... I think you want your boy to accept people, whoever, so you get that weird feeling when your dog may not accept or you feel the situation is not good. I would go with your gut and tell the SOB to buzz off. When your pup is older and can defend himself from jerks maybe you should let him, in the mean time you protect him! He is a nice pup...

LOL!  This was a guy working on your car?  I would just walk away because if you are rude your bill is going to triple and you will have new problems that he "found"!

LOL Vickie, it was another customer I had never met.  In fact I go to church with the guy who was working on my car so thankfully he listens lol.  Oh the frustration though.  Tomorrow we're going to one of Anubis favorite places, the police department.  And we'll go a few other places just to walk and socialize. The police officers all know Anubis and like him, and one of them is also at the local SchH club. They all play with him how you're suppose to thankfully. I guess a lot of people just do not know how to interact with dogs.

You need to toughen up.  If you have to be the pack leader for your dog, you might find out if you can't get tough

with jerks, then you better practice.   Go home in the mirror and pretend that jerk is in the mirror...PRACTICE what you would tell him over and over...or HER>..I met an obnoxious woman in Petsmart and I almost had to find the bathroom.

She was not interested in me, she would not leave my two dogs alone. This was about 7 yrs ago.
