Interesting thread.  I've been wondering about entering my first dog into the database.  His sire and dam are both in here.  But I wasn't sure what might be frowned on.  He passed on to the Rainbow Bridge about 10 years ago.  If I understand Moons correctly, it's ok for me to add my old guy into the database, right?  I think there was a gap in the data here, that I could fill in using the info from his pedigree.  I should leave that alone, since I didn't own that particular dog, just my guy who came several generations later?

Well I have been giving this a lot of thought.

" Ok we have our dogs pedigree and yes some of the dogs in the pedigree are on the database but others aren't. If we cannot or should not enter dogs that are not owned by us then how can we complete any pedigrees?

Yes we do need to be sure that we have the correct data and spelling. Many old pedigrees were hand written or made up on an old typewriter so yes mistakes were often made but using the database and the many people that frequent here I am sure that with care we could complete many old pedigrees.
