Thanks for the advice. I've decided to leave Bella by my friend for an extra week. As cute as they might be, don't need no puppies right now.

I had a litter from conception through a chainlink fence, I didn't know that was possible.  Figured they both have kennel tops and concrete floors so no chance of a litter right? WRONG!! I was outside mowing the yard and looked up and they were tied through the fence.  60 days later a litter of 8 was born.  Now my best thing is the balcony.  All of my dogs have been trained to us a potty pool during bad weather on the balcony.  It is a great place for the girls when they are in cycle too because its 20 feet off the ground and I dont know of males climbing the poles, only every male dog in town showing up and singing loves songs to us at night!
I would keep her away from him for 28 days from blood visibility. and yes a Bath is a great idea, and monitor their get back together time very carefully.  he may smell her cycle smells and mount her and try to tie with her and hurt her.  Some males are horny and will try to mount even spayed females!

yea, I always do some interesting dog separation when my girl is in heat.   Have the routine figured out well enough to keep the howling/whining at a minimum on his part.  I don't have kennels either, mostly use crates, and there's been a couple of night where he has slept in the car!  He's also very good and isn't all that interested until she's ready...So actually the first couple of days they can be together under supervision and then at the end supervised.   Her cycles are very predictable, so makes things pretty easy.

But I still always get paranoid that I might have missed something.   LOL  Always thinking there was an accident, when there wasn't.

If I could she'd be in an ivory tower!

she comes to work with me, so that there's no chance of anything happening when I'm not home!
