Truly sobering Jantie. Thank you for all the work it must have taken to put this paper together......too bad the people who should be listening won't be. I thought things were bad in the SV, but this blew me away.

I have enjoyed your posts in the past, and this has been no exception. Keep up the good work......

Jantie, do I understand you correctly that you state that only 25% of GSDs are a-normal, or at least "free of dysplasia". Where did you get that statistic? Also, you state that the average litter of GSD pups is only 4. That surprises me as well. Can you share the source of your data? -Yvette

Jantie is counting a2's and any not certified (which is often about half the progeny) as if having HD to get that figure.

Here's a browser friendly version of the data used http://www.ehretgsd.com/Best-producers-HD1-1.pdf

I for one never believe everything I read.

Dear friends!

I have to thank the knowledgeable people for their nice words,

correct the lyers (tell them that the figures are all based on SV-material only! The SV-Genetics database!),

and challenge the ignorant who think their one-liners are funny. (If you have no idea what a metaphore is, then read some more instead of writing.)

Peace!

Not sure if you consider me a dear friend or a liar, but I don't contest your data source, only that your interpretation of it needs to be put into proper perspective.

Told off by someone who thinks it's relevant to post ludicrous pictures of "sinking" dogs and horses (?); told that's why dogs have / get HD!  I don't think so!

Dr Malcolm Willis... I listen to, read his books and study his "charts".  You should do the same, Jante... imo.

Jantie   Thanks very much for the hard work going into this research and for sharing it with us. Much appreciated!   There is something else however that I would like to have your opinion (as well as those of the other members of course!) on and that is the validity of the hip x-rays themselves.  The reason I’m asking is an article I found a while ago at www.olderhill.co.za/medical.htm. Personally I tend to disagree with some (actually many – ouch…) statements on the site, but I’m not really qualified to judge the x-ray/hip/spine problems mentioned for myself.   Your opinions please?   Regards gertv

I think (Max) would be proud that his breed has developed the way it has, into one of the most natural and beautiful breeds on the planet! Yes there are problems that still need correcting, but I think that's more of tweeking, than major surgery. Even humans have developed since the early 1900s people are taller, food is better, people can be what they want to be! The problems in our breed is down to different factions that can't agree on direction, and they will go their own sweet way no matter what! If you compare the top dogs from the early 1900s to now, you have got to agree the difference is for the better. There is no one as blind as the person who doesn't want to see!. Bill Owen.
