Wuzzup,

funny that you mention this. I never talked about it, because I thought peopel might think I am crazy...... (well, maybe a little bit :-) ).

It's a couple of years back, we had a GSD & a Lab. They started to houl & bark in the kitchen and were very nervous, I yelled down there and told them to be quiet. They would not stop and 1 min or so later the house shook. Wife & I had a hard time to explain what happened, we just could not figure it out till the next morning when we read about it in the Paper ! The entire time we thought it was an explosion of some kind !

During the early hours of late April 2008 an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude occurred in Indiana and we felt the shock at my home in Tennessee. I remember that my wife and I awoke at the same time, and we both felt and heard the very deep and rythmic "thump, thump" of the earthquake. She asked me what it was, and I replied "earthquake."

My "alert and protective" pack of GSD's slept  soundly through this earthquake. The dogs did not stir until I spoke to them and said "some watchdogs you guys are." Of course they all (finally) jumped to action and began to bark as if to impress me.According to news reports over the years I have been through several light earthquakes but this was the first one I ever felt-no doubt because I was asleep.

I live within a few hundred miles of the New Madrid fault line, so I do have earthquake insurance. But the particular earthquake occured two (2) states north from Tennessee, and was indeed a rarity.

Best Regards,

Bob-O

The earthquake happened just as I was opening the door leaving the house to go to the gym. My wife had asked me to forget about the gym that night and stay with the family. Well, as I was leaving, I heard as if someone  was running quickly down the stairs and my wife was calling me. I said to myself, Oh no, she's realy adamant about not letting me going to the gym tonight. As it turned out, no one was going down the stairs, and my wife was screaming to tell me there "is" an earthquake. As far as my 9 week old puppy, she was standing quietly in her crate. My cat wanted to go to the garage a second before the earthquake hit.

Sorry folks, I wish I had a better warning action from my pets to brag about. May be next time.  I hope not!

NONE of my dogs have ever given the slightest indication that "something" was coming.  Nor, has anything unusual been noted from birds, or raccoons.   That could be because, according to the geologists, there are more than 200 earthquakes or tremors in this area every year.  We just aren't aware of the vast majority of them.  The animals, apparently, become blasé about it.

The dogs started howling here at 10:00 AM, the horses & llamas were acting skittish all day. Last night when the earthquake hit, I immediately thought of the animals strange behavior & knew why they were acting that way.

Richter should get some pets!!!

Hee Hee!
