Pharaoh

by Pharaoh on 06 January 2009 - 02:01

They way she is stacked does not do her justice.  I can commiserate as my efforts at stacking are failures. Oh, well.

The other thing about the first picture is that there is a shadow that makes her neck look skinnier than it really is.

What does she eat?  Her coat doesn't look quite like it could, But, perhaps she has been in heat and blew her coat.

I think with good food and oils or her coat coming back in and better stacking, she would be much better in a picture.

At 14 months she is just growing and will develop her muscles.

Jim I had a white german shepherd also ,in the early 1980's .It was one of my all time favorite dogs..Always happy good with everyone, that dog kept it's self spotlessly clean. However it did not look like the one illustrated in this picture .To me this one looks well not so nice.

Raw diet, just started supplementing with fish oil and vitamin E.

Dogs fed on raw diet mature much more slowly than those fed on K----, so she won't be filled out for awhile. But she's old enough to start doing some legwork now.

I think Jackie means conditioning/roadwork to build up muscle.

Mystere

This is a young bitch that needs time to fill out and mature. Nice expression, but I agree that she is a bit stretched (my new pet peeve, as my bitch puppy is a bit stretched, too. LOL). I have seen one white gsd on a schutzhund training field, and he was actually quite impressive. I was sorry to see his handler drift away-too much work.

She's young and she's lanky. She needs time to develop her muscles. She's overstretched and east-west in the stack, but you knew that. Try walking her into it in front of a mirror. Use bait. It's hard to stack some dogs and it takes a lot of practice. Get a good picture of a correctly stacked GSD and practice, practice, practice with your dog. If a dog is correctly structured, you can walk her into a stack with practice. Have her on a leash and walk forward then stop (use your hand in front of her nose as a stop signal) the instant she's stacked.

Otherwise, you have to hand place the front legs and feet directly under the shoulders with both feet pointing forward not to the sides. Lift each foot up and place it down correctly. The hind leg toward the camera goes back so that the hock is perpendicular to the ground and the far side rear leg should be placed with the foot under the loin. Put your hand on the stifle joint to move the rear legs and you can reach underneath the dog for the far side leg. If she's standing cowhocked, shift the feet.  No, I don't think she's cowhocked but sometimes they stand that way when you hand place them so watch for it.

Don't white shepherds have a separate standard? I don't know what it is, but I know they are built a bit differently than other GSDs.
