I have an Avid chip in my male and a Home Again chip in my female.  I wasn't aware of the periodic renew for the Home Again chip.  Will definitely check that out tonight when I get home.

maybe it depends on which registry you use.  i have home-again chips in my dogs, and never have to renew their listings with AKC CAR.

AKC~CAR lifetime enrollment with the current owner does not have to be renewed annually-its a one-time fee paid at the time of enrollment-you provide them your microchip number (I have a male who's been registered with them over 3yrs and a female who's been there right about 4yrs now-neither require an annual fee to be paid-it was only a one-time thing-and they will recognize tattoos as well as microchips). When the dog is sold/transferred, if the info is updated to show a new owner with the CAR, then the fee applies. They've raised it from $12.50 to something like $17.50 if done one line or $19.95 by mail- in that ballpark now (they are still accepting faxed/mailed AKC CAR applications for $12.50 but only until 1/01/2009!). The enrollment link is here: https://www.akccar.org/cares-pub/ind/individualEnrollment.car
The enrollment form shows the types of brands of microchips they recognise-just scroll thru the enrollment form to see if your brand is noted. If not, you could always contact them and ask.
