I was at a trial awhile back in Hutto, Tx and a couple of friends of mine were going to get BH on two of their dogs which they had never done before and they were made to take a BH Test. Both dogs past of course but my friends were very nervous about it.

I heard about this test and quite frankly I think it's stupid and worthless. I don't think it's right to put more pressure on the handler by including a written test at the trial.

Thank god WDA or DVG doesn't enforce the written test.

Geez.  I can't even find the darn thing on the USA website.

Though, from what I remember it was very very basic questions.

Amy:

You should be fine if you know your fieldwork like gagsd4 stated.  Please let us know how it goes on Sunday.  If memory serves me correctly, I also read the small 3 ring binder (rulebook) that provided a lot of information on the test.  However, that was also back in 2004 so I'm sure a lot of things have been fine tuned since then.  I believe 2004 was the first year that the written test was introduced.

I think its a valuable part of the training. I took mine and passed. If you know your stuff you'll be fine. If a handler cant handle a written test, why would one trust them to handle a dog? I think requiring proof of knowledge of the excercises is more than fair. The questions are easy, relavent to the task at hand and another trial milestone for those new to the sport. Good luck on your BH. I am sure you will do fine.

In Canada we are much kinder. The BH has the questions and answers on their website for members only. This is a proactive measure to fight negative veiws that may be sent at the sport.

What wriitten test are you taliking about,  If you have one where you live its the first time i have heard of it ,

You do not have any writing to do over here in Belgium, Netherlands, and Germany, Just as well,

My 16 month old Fred is going for his BH  next month, and i can hardly spell my name so i do not want to do any writing on a test.

If  i  have to i will put a Cross on the paper

Thats a bit of a funny thing to say regards the Dog handling bit

You have to do the correct excesises on the BH in accordance to the rules, So if you pass, then you know all the excersises than are required to be done, If you fail then you do not unless of course the Dog throws a wobbly

No one has mentioned taking a test for the Traffic part and i do not see the need for it

Over here you do not get any scores, it is a Pass or a Fail nothing inbetween. I hope he does not say to me 'Niet Geschelid' because if he does i will through a wobbly, never mind the Dog

Hello,

you do have to pass a written test in Germany if it is the first dog you are trialing, you can even take the test without trialing a dog.  And not just the questions relating to the BH are asked. questions relating to dog behavior, food questions, and questions that have things to do with handling and keeping a dog in a kennel, laws, insurance and so on.  The test was really done to reinforce the impression that dog training in Germany was only done if people had sufficient knowledge to handle and read their dogs, when the laws about dogs got more strict that the clubs show an active position and try to train responsible dog owners.
