I have been there, too! My lab/gsd/husky did that so much all I had to do was look at her wrong and she would go! A couple years later she grew out of it. I got Nenz at age 4 and when I yelled at him he did it too. He is better now at age 5. Other dogs I have had or known did too. I just figured all dogs did that. Spunky (Zippy vom Haus Miller) is the first puppy I have ever had that doesn't, thank God. My friends have gsd mixes that did submissive and excitement urination both and Spunky was the only dry one when we all got together. Yes, it is very annoying. If it is a major problem indoors maybe you could try a male wrap (kind of doggie diaper) until he grows out of it. Good luck!

I agree with dawn that you should try to work on the charging and the biting. Try a sit stay when a stranger comes up to you. Let him see that your not concerned and calm his excitement.

I'll never forget the time I went to visit a friend I had not seen in a while, Oh, the thrill of saying hi! "How have you been, I really missed you guys!", THEN----the family dog, a female half lab half who knows what, comes running towards you, and you put your hand out ever so gently to give that puppy a great BIG how do you do, on the top of her cute little head, and you hear everyone scream, "Don't pat her!!!!!!!" Then she pees on the floor, it was a kodak moment! Makes us look so comical..............

Ignore it. Try not to step in it. It should go away with maturity. SS

One of the toughest females I ever owned did the submissive peeing as a puppy.

When you come in the house - do not touch the dog or make a big deal out of seeing him etc. Take out, let him pee and then pet him - conservatively.

"Getting on" a young dog can only lead to an unsure dog. I would say only correct 'bad' behavior....jumping, etc. is a puppy thing and will go away. There is plenty of time for corrections. Just don't get disgusted....let him be a puppy as they grow up way too fast.

Please don't use corrections Allison!!! He is still young...you and I have talked about this already. But I see people telling you some silly things. You know the dog...he will be fine. He may not be hard...haven't seen a HARD, and I use that term loosely, dog that does submissive peeing in your context.

At his age, he is coming into himself. Please always use positive and NO corrections. He is way too young....he is learning his pack order, and starting training. A lot for a little guy. I know you have it under control and will continue to. You have many helpful resources in your corner...use them well. I wish I had them around me!!!
