Hi Yasemin,

you are right, consistency plays a mayor role in all training, but rest assured, you got yourself a fine dog that has the foundation to build on. There will be times when you will think that your dog is all of a sudden "stupid", dont loose your mind over it, it will vanish again ! Growing pups do go through a lot of different stages, best advice is to deal with it as calm as possible !

I still own Caro, but a friend of mine is raising her for me. Sofar we are very pleased with her, bite training is definetly her favorit and it is a pleasure to watch her. We will probably keep her till she is a year old and then decide if we wish to use her in my breedings or not.

The very best to you & your family

Enroll her in obedience class or take some private lessons so you can see first hand from an actual dog trainer what to do. Books are great for ideas, but its not a substitute for learning first hand. And steer clear of Petsmart/petco, getting your dog trained at a retail store is like buying a wedding ring at wal-mart. Find a dog trainer with experience in GSDs, in my opinion some dog trainers don't know how to get in their head, they aren't like many other dogs.

I don't have any problem putting a training collar on a pup over 4 months of age, if you know what you're doing and can be patient and fair, you'd be surprised how well your pup matures into a dog that can handle pressure remarkably well.

Remember to only walk a short distance and stop  and make sit and restart keeping dog with quick yanks if he strays away   ,,gentle but strong...and when he does good   praise him and good sitz .

A little trick one trainer showed me many years ago, after the pup learns to stay by your knee, if he gets started walking ahead a little.....in your right hand  as you;have extra leash left over in your right hand,,.....start swinging it around and around like your lassoing something, but make it hit the pup accross the nose and he will put head back....stop every time the pup starts to get ahead .......heel, walk walk walk stop.......heel  w w w w w stop      every now and then put pup in a sitz and praise ,,,,always take off with the left foot.....always........only train for 10  minutes and then   go play with ball and give a treat...,.praise him   highly.

Hi Yasemin,

I think Uli is giving excellent advice for a pup this age, especailly as he knows the breeding and temperament.  You will do fine by listening to him.

Hi Shelley,

anything wrong ?  I reread the thread, could not find anything that would be offending to you or that would be in any way out of line. Yasemin is seeking advice, and she was given it from various peopel. I find that much better & more pleasures to read than some other threads. Neverless, I would really like to know what bugged you.

I finally found a trainer who was recommended by someone who has been competing in the world sieger. I am very excited!! This sport is very new to Turkey when compared with Germany, the US and many other countries. I am a total beginner in this sport.(although I had a pet belgian shepherd for 15 years). Therefore, thank you for all the motivating feedback.  I am not giving up on my puppy or myself. I just have to work harder :)

Oh Dear... NOTHING bugged me Ulli. I wasn't trying to offend anyone. (On the rare occasions I do dump on someone, I think its VERY obvious,  and I like to think they've worked hard to deserve it !)

That was just a pathetic attempt at humor, not intended to be taken even slightly seriously. There was already so much excellent advice that anything I might add would only be repetitive. Sorry if I offended.

Friends again?

Hi Shelley,

never intendet not to be friends  ! Sure hope you did not took it like that. You are right, many things just pop up every so often, and it can get boring. But since I have had a rather nice relation ship with Yasemin, through mails & calls, I had the feeling that giving Yasemin tipps, would be a nice thing to do.

Please forgive me, sometimes the language barier makes it easy to be misunderstood ! But I wont give up !

Regards   Ulli

Oh, Yasemin, good thing that you found a trainer ! This is great!
