Hodie,

Thank you, I too enjoy a good discussion with people of opposing views, especially if both parties can stay open minded and civil.  But  I know it can be hard to not to get mad, I know I have found myself yelling at the tv or computer screen numerous times over the past several months.  My husband and I do try to do what we can and be good citizens and responsible for our own actions.  We laugh at each other because we are the oldest 20 somethings we know as far as our views of the world and our daily routines.  I was a little less than truthful in my last post about how we don't have kids, because we do have 2 german shepherds and a cat who are like our children, we spoil them pretty bad and love them to death, lol.

As polls and pundits in recent weeks increasingly pointed to the election of Barack Obama as the next president, scores of Utahns flocked to gun stores.

Obama has supported renewing the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban, which stops the manufacture of several semiautomatic guns with large magazines.
"Such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets," Obama's Web site states.

Local gun dealers quickly are running out of stock of magazines for Colt AR-15s and AK models and many have seen a sharp increase in the sales of those guns.

"Pretty much anything with more than 10 rounds is in high demand right now," said Michael Martin, a sales representative at Impact Guns in Salt Lake City. "We had one supplier go from 92 assault rifles to 12 in one day. Our suppliers are just frantically scrambling."
Customers at Fuzzy Bunny Movie Guns have expressed their worries about a renewed gun ban on the store's online message boards, and the past 10 days have brought major jumps in sales.

"For customers out there thinking about getting one of these guns, don't think," said James Bunten, president of FBMG, who has had to order stock much further in advance to guarantee his store's stock. "At least put money down on it now to get a place in very long line."

While many avid gun owners now are buying $3,000 worth of guns, accessories and spare parts instead of the more typical $1,000, they aren't the only ones stocking up, according to Bunten. He has seen a big increase in people wanting to learn how to use the large assault rifles by signing up for classes at the store.

"I've seen a wider demographic of customers. There are more and more professionals. I see doctors getting assault weapons instead of just their hunting rifles," Bunten said.

Charles Hardy, Gun Owners of Utah policy director, said he has seen the same trend in the past week, as polling showed Obama increasingly likely to win the White House.
Obama has said he is a supporter of Second Amendment rights, "while keeping guns away from children and from criminals who shouldn't have them," his Web site states.
But Hardy says Obama's Support of an assault-weapons ban,  goes Against gun rights and is spurring sales.

"Now that we will have someone who is openly hostile to the right to keep and bear arms in the White House, gun owners and those who hope to one day own guns have woken up and they are nervous," said Hardy.

"You don't really appreciate something until you lose it," Hardy said. "People who have been casually interested before now have the sense that 'If I don't have [an assault rifle] in my closet, I won't be able to get one.' "

That attitude makes Gary Sackett, a member of the board of directors of the Gun Violence Prevention Center of Utah, nervous.

"It's always a concern when there are more lethal weapons out in the hands of people where such lethal weapons have no function in society, even for self-defense," Sackett said. "An assault rifle is not an appropriate weapon and is more likely to cause an accidental death or severe injury."
He hopes with Obama in office and a Democratic majority in both houses, new gun legislation will surface soon.

The 1994 federal Assault Weapons Ban mandated that all U.S. gun manufacturers stop making semiautomatic assault weapons and ammunition clips holding more than 10 rounds, except for military or police use. The ban was allowed to sunset 10 years later under President George W. Bush and a Republican House and Senate.

 But it's the Real

Market dove again, Micky – biggest two-day fall since 1987! License to print money if you ask me – tomorrow the bargain hunters?

This thread is probably beyond its use-by date, but you and KTF may agree that the US is living beyond its means. With a stronger economy the normal answer of course is to increase taxes and/or cut – cut welfare, cut departments, waste and the military. Anyhow, interesting to see what Obama comes up with. May well publicly announce that things are even worse than he thought and …

By the way, what’s the upshot with your boy, KTF? Aimed to reply previous but ran out of time. And then, after weighing options and putting myself in your shoes I basically decided that I would in fact do very little! (I’ll get shot for this!) The breed is notorious for suffering from a delicate stomach. I’d cut out all the medications and concentrate on re-establishing healthy stomach flora (boil rice to bits, keep the rice-water and boil for a few minutes with beef mince to improve taste, and feed daily). Wouldn’t worry about dog thinning either – GSD’s do quite well on a very simple and basic diet. Just one crucial qualification: foregoing is only relevant for as long as animal remains active, lively and normal-eyed. If it turns lethargic, listless or what else, back to the vet and all the rest.

Read that post (Kerschberger?) about Europe but simply decided not to reply. I’m familiar with most parts (in late teens/early twenties bummed for some years from one end to the other in fact - working menial jobs I can’t even remember!)) and though some of the remarks vaguely struck a bit of a chord with more immediate nanny-like northwest, the rest … grossest ‘codswallop’ generalization!

It’s the way of the times, Bob-O – joys of a global free market – not so much politics as business. A manufacturer in Kentucky need stay competitive with ones in Japan, France or wherever. You’re dead on where you mentioned vested employee benefits. The bean-counters swing into action and the older more experienced employees – the ones with the most accumulated and costly entitlements – are usually the first to get the chop. As in your case, all too often a shortsighted policy.

Obviously having a field day, Ugly! Reckon they’d adore you in Isreal?

You know what kills me is this, First black,,blah, blah, blah, black this, black that, yada, yada,  yada," Is America now colorblind?"                                      OBVIOUSLY NOT!        (or black would not be mentioned).

I think a great deal of voters were just tired of our kids being killed in Iraq. I know I am. I have to admit, I voted, BUT, I voted "None -of the -Above " for president.

Second,      How can ANYONE, compare Michelle Obama, with Jackie O' ? NO comparison. I don't beleive that when the Kennedy family endorsed Obama, they meant to put Michelle O', into the shoes of Jackie O'!!!

I find that as offensive now, as I found Fred (Flintstone)and Barney (Rubble)," RAPPING " for Fruity Pebbles!!!

I am in no means predjudice, but come on now!!!

I know that's not much of a political statement, but these 'Camelot, Jackie O'  'comparisons are a REAL STRETCH for me!

Gaza: Israeli Army Endangers Lives Of US Nationals

The International Solidarity Movement
Press Release

URGENT - Israeli army endangering lives of European and American nationals in Gaza

Currently today (6th November), citizens of Britain, America and Italy are being fired upon in Khuza'a, close to Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip, who are partaking in the picking of olives on Palestinian land close to the Green Line. The group is on foot and one American citizen is driving a tractor.

Soldiers from two Israeli jeeps and from an Israeli watchtower have just opened fire on the internationals. The international Human Rights Workers have reported that the shots are getting increasingly closer and are endangering their lives.

Internationals currently living in the Gaza Strip have recently been accompanying Palestinian farmers to harvest their lands close to the Green Line.  The Israeli forces have been contacted and informed about the location of the unarmed internationals. They have been requested to cease fire immediately."

Not a word from Obama. Israel fires ON US Nationals..When can we start bombing Israel?

" Nearly 70% of the military budget is to provide men and weapons to fight in foreign countries in support of our allies and friends and for offensive operations in Third World countries ..

Another big chunk of the defense budget is the 20% allocated for our offensive nuclear force of bombers, missles, and submarines whose job it is to carry nuclear weapons to the Soviet Union...

Actual defense of the United States costs about 10% of the military budget and is the least expensive function performed by the Pentagon... "

 >Market dove again, Micky – biggest two-day fall since 1987!<

Of course, that has nothing to do with electing an individual promising to tax the SNOT out of anyone who has had the audacity to work his or her derrierre off, now, does it?  Wall St normally has at least a bounce upon election of a new president, as a rule.

And, of course, it has absolutely nothing to do with congressional Democrats looking to confiscate everyones' IRA's and 501k's, and put them under governmental control.  Nooooo. Couldn't be.

Higher taxes, here we come!
