In other words, kiddies, Barack does not, contrary to popular belief, walk on water
Mickey, you really should stop channelling Rush Limbaugh. I don't know of anyone, including those on this forum, who supported Obama who believes that he had some sort of magical solution to the nation's problems.
Let's be honest, Obama has been delivered a terrible hand with some daunting challenges and it will require exceptional ability on his part and the team he assembles to put Humpty Dumpty together again.
IMO, once he appoints a Treasury Secretary and gets a handle on the nation's economic situation, Obama will probably not be able to give a tax reduction to all those earning less than $200K annually - it will probably be a lower threshold of perhaps $150K but I believe that he will honor his promise not to raise taxes on those earning less than $250K.

Shelly, I truely understand your dilemma all too well. Quiet changes in employment law and prevailing business attitudes has allowed companies to craft methods to fire and replace us while masking these actions as anything but an age discrimination issue that can be easily proven in court. I too have been a victim of this type of action and it took a long time to again find gainful employment in my profession. When it happened to me and several other senior men it was described as a "layoff". Job titles were changed a bit, as were the duties and responsibilities in order to hide the fact that it was done solely because of our age and cost to the employer.
We all had many things in common. We all had at least twenty (20) years of employment with the firm, and some had as many as thirty-nine (39) years. We all had five (5) weeks of vacation and were heavily vested in the pension plan. We were all experts in our fields. And, we were soooooo dispensible that our employment was erased with the stroke of a pen.
I have no idea how many resume's I sent or on how many doors I knocked. I know that it was a constant endeavour every day. I was able to find employment that paid less than one-half of my former salary, and eventually return to the engineering world just to get slapped out again. Finally dueing February of this year I was able to find a great job with a new firm and I am so happy to have it. But how long did it take? It took nearly two (2) years. During that time I was unemployed for two (2) stretches for several months each.
I remember so well an e-mail I received upon my return home from a business trip. It was from my former long-time employer who was essentially pleading with me to return. Why I was a bit "flattered" I was also mildly surprised. I was so replaceable just over a year before, and now I suddenly had value. I replied to the e-mail with part of a verse from a rock & roll song "once bitten, twice shy". It actually felt good to turn them down and leave them to wallow.
So, there is hope out there, but it will be determined by personal fortitude and nothing else. You have that in abundance-no doubt about it. And my former employer? Gee, they are seeking their fourth (4th) replacement for me in just two & one-half (2 1/2) years. I was soooooooo dispensable at he time. I knew that someday I would laugh about te bad things that happened to us, and the time has come. I also realize now that being canned may have been one of the better things to happen in my career. It sure did not seem like it at the time, and did not seem like it for so long.
Shelly, keep your chin up and dig away. It will happen for you too.
Good Luck,
Bob-O

Obama mentor: Barack has a 'yiddishe nishama'
Nov. 5, 2008
Yaakov Katz , THE JERUSALEM POST
Regarding concern in Israel about an Obama presidency, Mikva said that "Barack will be the First Jewish president in the US."
"He has a yiddeshe nishama," Mikva said. "He is committed to Israel and its security concerns and understands that democratization does not happen by force but by example, and there is no better example in the Middle East than Israel."
On Tuesday, Hyde Park was buzzing with activity. Police were blocking off streets and were deployed on every corner and alleyway around the Obama home, which is located right across the street from the KAM Isaiah Israel Temple, the oldest synagogue in the Windy City. Unusually long voting lines were recorded across Chicago.
Mikva knows a thing or two about elections. At 82, he is an elder statesman in his Hyde Park neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. Sen. Barack Obama lives just up the street.
Born in Wisconsin, Mikva went to the University of Chicago's Law School and served in the Illinois House of Representatives and in the US Congress from 1969 until 1979. He resigning his seat when president Jimmy Carter appointed him to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, where he served until 1994. He then was White House counsel under president Bill Clinton until 1995.
Mikva was something of a mentor to Obama as the Illinois state senator made his first move into national politics in 2000 in a failed bid for Congress. They became close friends several years earlier when they met on the University of Chicago campus where they were both teaching at the law school.

Israeli Terrorist to appoint Obama's new Colonial Government.
Obama has 'offered' Rahm Emmanuel to be his Chief of Staff. He will be appointing Obama's colonial government. You lost your government. It's over. they will NEVER give it back to you without a fight.
Rahm Emmanuel is the son of a top mossad terrorist agency that went around in the 60's and 70's blowing up Arab hotels and buildings and blaming it on Palestinians.

http://iamthewitness.com/Bollyn/Bollyn-Emanuel.html
The new "golden boy" of the Democrat Party, the Israeli-American congressman Rahm Emanuel, is the son of a terrorist.
Really, the chief power-broker of the Democrat Party, the 5-and-a-half foot foul-mouthed Israeli named Rahm, is the son of terrorist – a real living terrorist.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the Democrat congressman for the 5th District of Illinois in Chicago is the son of an Israeli terrorist. Rahm's father, Benjamin, was a member of the Irgun, the Zionist terrorist organization that coined a new word as they blew up hotels, train stations, and other buildings in Palestine in the 1930s and 40s.
Rahm was an Israeli citizen until he was 18 years old, when for obvious reasons he hid his Israeli passport in his underwear drawer. In 1991, however, he pulled his Israeli passport out and went and reportedly joined the Israeli Army to defend Zion from Saddam's Scuds.
Irgun, the army of his father, is short for Irgun Zvai Leumi, which supposedly means something like "National Military Organization" in Hebrew. As a matter of fact, the Irgun was simply a terrorist Zionist group that operated in Palestine from 1931 to 1948. They killed innocent Palestinians and British soldiers and blew up buildings.
After 1948 they became part of the new Israeli government and did the same thing. In September 2001 they put their skills to work in New York City and Washington to kick start the "war on terror" - a conflict long promoted by their chief architect, Bibi Netanyahu, son of the former secretary of Ze'ev Jabotinsky. New Panthers' war On whites
Some people wear their heart on their sleeve.
* On whites: "I'm about the total destruction of white people. I'm about the total liberation of black people. I Hate white people. I hate my enemy. . . ."
Minister King Samir Shabazz wears his on his forehead. Right between the eyes.
"If you want to stop the revolution, that's what you got to hit," Shabazz said, pointing to the target tattooed onto his forehead. "I fight my oppressor, and I give him the target."
Shabazz is chairman of the New Black Panther Party's Philadelphia chapter. In black beret atop dreadlocks and a black military uniform, he spends most weekdays near City Hall condemning "crackers" and exhorting black passers-by to rise up against their "slavemasters" - and to give him $2 for the party's semi-annual newspaper.
He is one of the most recognizable black militants in a city known, since the days of MOVE, for its vocal black-extremism community.
The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which monitors hate activity globally, listed the New Black Panther Party as among the most active and tough-talking of black-separatist groups.
Black Hebrews also have grown increasingly active in recent years, according to the SPLC, especially in Philadelphia, where robed street preachers shout out their beliefs daily near City Hall, the Convention Center, Germantown Avenue and other heavily trafficked areas.
Followers of the movement claim that African-Americans are God's true chosen people because they, not the people traditionally known as Jews, are the real descendants of the biblical Hebrews.
Their views, while often just as extreme, tend to be couched in religious rhetoric about "Edomites" (the descendants of Esau) and such terms that barely slow the stride of most passers-by."

Even my local news was full of kids ticking off all the stuff Mr Obama would now magically accomplish, not to mention older people making similar predictions.
IF expectations weren't off the chart for Mr Obama's ability to quickly right every wrong in the nation, why do you suppose the New York Times felt it expedient to run this story???

RatPackKing, what a class act. (Who knew ? - LOL).
Seriously, though, thank you for that post. Was reading this morning that Obama's transition team and cabinet has names from both parties in high positions - the attitude that we are all one--I really hope we get back to it.
You have the right attitude and my hat's off to you.
