Red Sable

by Red Sable on 09 December 2009 - 17:12

Aww, group hug!

I raise a toast, to the German Shepherd Dog...

A dog we all love, and yes, are very passionate about.  May we all do what we can to ensure it remains a working dog which adheres to the standard

JIm:

I just assumed he was speaking of Orry Von Haus Antverpa(I know what happens when you assume) The Orry i,m speaking of did sire some awsome driven dogs. Clark that has been doing my helper work and abusing me in obedience always says that the reason Orry passed such crazy drive is becaue of the Mali,s that Antrvepa snuck in to the breedings... so I get it from both sides...hahaha

What was wrong with Ivan's Apache do Amper showline???.

by Gustav on 09 December 2009 - 18:12

Ok, lets reverse this equation because some people are still sticking their heads in the sand. Why are there no prominent Sables, Blacks, and Bi-color , show dogs in the world today. There are thousands of dogs fron these color patterns in past 20 years that have excellent conformation according to the standard. ( If you refer to Timo as only one in twenty years you make the point.) Why is not an excellent V rated sable dog referred to as conformation dog if the conformation supports this. Some of the Maineche dogs are four and five successive generations of being V rated and producing V rated dogs. Why are these dogs NEVER winning conformation shows. Many times we see some gorgeous sables or blacks in structure but you know the best they will get is V at some local show at the end of the line. Now doesn't the breed need these dogs in the showring, 1) Because they have excellent structure,2) there genes will strengthen working capability of what is now pushed. And its not that NONE of these people will show these dogs...talk to them and an inordinate amount will tell you that they know their dog is not going to get a fair shake in the ring so why bother. You think having a "conformation dog" synonomous with a color pattern is not detrimental to the breed. I have said nothing negative about show dogs in this post so show people don't get defensive. But I am curious how we can justify the exclusion of this segment of color pattern from the show world and things not occurr because of it.
ps Please don't tell me about no Bl and RD being in the working world because you same people have "convinced" me that a top working dog can be any color> Let's help me understand why these color patterns are never correct enough to win big conformation shows...Need educating.

Whats wrong with your car?

Bob
We were going to a pigeon presentation in Genk about 50 miles from home we stopped at some red traffic lights wating for them to change when a van failed to pull up behind our stationary car he smashed our back in, Problem was the insurance company said this year to change the car to a Third Party insurance
It would have beebn okay but the other Guy gave us false information details, Now the Police are looking for him but do not expect to trace him from the details he gave for he would have had to pay for the damage to our car, So we are not covered and must now pay for the damage ourselves which is not possible a sum of 6,200 Euros worth of Damage
I will have to try the Bank as soon as the insurance has given up finding the Guy, The Garage wants the car done and out of there Garage, Not a good situation, there are some real nasty people out there
Fortunatly the good people outweigh the bad ones, We were shook up at the time he knocked us 4 yards over the line otherwise i would have had the sense to call the Police but was not thinking straight, Thank the Stars the Dogs were not behind otherwise they would be dead

Gustav,
I cannot speak for others.....so I will not even try.
We have owned/bred & shown sable colored dogs in the past and have done very well with them.
I do not know why more aren't shown the "respect" in the ring??....ignorance?!...predjudice?....
A beautifully structured dog is the same....no matter what the "allowed" color may be.
I plan on  PROUDLY showing my black/red sable DDR female puppy, just as soon as she is trained and old enough for the ring.....and incorporating her in our future breeding program.....
We will do the same with any promising WL dog we decide to import next year, also for our future breeding plans.
Color to me is only "icing" on a cake.......nothing more.

Robin, I commend you and will look to see if whay you are doing is occurring and I am missing out. Its just when I look at a copy of the Seiger show book with the two thousand dogs shown and I see the winners of Regional or Landesgruppen(sp), show at the v-1,2,3,4, dogs it APPEARS to me they are always Black and Red/tan. Maybe I'm offbase and this is not correct, BUT if it is correct or close to correct would this have any effect on the show breed by not having the prominent dogs that win only be one color. Would people tend to breed to only them in the show world....why are the other colors not represented in high circles in big shows when they do have the correct structure.??
