I never said America was the center of the GSD world. If you read my post you'll see that I definitely believe that Central Europe (mainly GERMANY) is the center of the GSD world. The reason the title/qualification thing matters is that the person trying to make that statement HAS NEVER ACHIEVED ONE. Why does it matter what they’re called to him? He has never, in 50 years of being involved in the GSD, achieved a TITLE OR A QUALIFICATION by SV rules. Being from New Zealand, it proves how disconnected the person is from the GSD world, the trialing/training world, and even the ENGLISH SPEAKING world. The whole world has accepted the fact that an IPO title is called a title. The language has evolved, a word was chosen to mean a certain thing. Just like the GSD breed has evolved and left him behind, it seems so has the English language.

Want to know what America is the center of? The English speaking world. As a first language, the United States has almost 70% of English speakers in the world. There are more than twice the amount of first language English speakers in the United States than there are in the rest of the world COMBINED. New Zealand as a whole is about 1% of the English speaking population of the United States. You know what all that means? The US drives the direction and evolution of the language like no other country in the world. No matter how many Oxford dictionaries you read and how many ancestors you have nominated for some award from the Queen…today’s English will go where the United States takes it…for good or for bad.

 

By the way...in case you want to call me a cocky American...I was not born in the United States and English is not my first language.

We have probably DOUBLE the population of yours, who use English as their second language. Many use it as their third language. Now, do the maths. BTW, we don't claim our country to be the center of English speaking world.

Again, why should it matter? What is the effect on GSD? Why should someone be hounded for saying Qualification?

I think I have, repeatedly, made my point.

Please prove my statements on the English language wrong. Do tell which country out there has a larger population of English speakers than the United States. Doesn't really matter...I can tell you New Zealand will be very very far down that list. I will also assume that if you are well educated, your estimate on how many English speakers there truly are in your country is probably quite a bit off...depending on the people you deal with daily. 

Someone would be hounded on it for trying to act like a smart ass more than anything. Has nothing to do with GSD, just some guy trying to make a point and prove he has something to offer this forum that is far from GSD because in regards to the breed, he doesn't have a leg to stand on. I appreciate your comments, now that I know what country you're from, the defense of the kiwi makes sense. Your country is basically in the same boat as New Zealand in regards to working breeds and my statements upset you. No worries. You've got someone to look up to in Les and can definitely work towards a position like his in your respective country. In 20 years when you look back and wonder why you're still constantly looking to import dogs from Europe, you can think back to this moment and maybe then you'll figure out what I'm trying to say.

Swarn, in that case "someone" should be able to acknowledge that his "little island" is not the centre of the English speaking world ( and by far not the middle of "working dog world" )...

I´d be fine in case Mr Pauling would say "WE ( dog people in NZ ) name IPO titles qualifications", I´d be fine in case he´d say " the better translation would have been qualification", but he INSISTS on HIS translation of a German term, ALTHOUGH the whole IPO dog sport world already accepted, understands, and uses the term "title".

Wait! I missed the ULTIMATE !!

Now we have TWO major posters, who ADMIT that English is NOT their first language, but are hell-bent in challenging the knowledge in English of an English speaking person, and his definitions of English words, despite the fact that the same person has a major in English, and taught English to pupils to earn a living for himself and for his GSDs.

RIDICULOUS !! I am now qualified to teach Susie about GSDs, and Bavarian Wagon about Dogsports ! And I'm entitled to confine them in little islands, if they dare to disagree!!

There ya go little buddy...way to be rational.

Sometimes I´d love to be "confined in a little island" - just give me a good dog, a beach, a lot of sun, and good food...

I have no problem acknowledging Mr Les's superiority of the English language, and his correctness, as for the current state of the breed........
