Hey,,,,,,nice job.  Were you writing this as you went along or are you a news anchorman by trade?  This is better than Howard Cosell.  I have the video in the order they walked onto the field but since most of the handlers wore no numbers, I have some production work to do.

I noted the catalog # of the male handlers as the came on. By the time the females began I lost interest in tracking them so closely.

All the handlers wore numbers in the males class, I took detailed notes on most males. I missed many of the females as I had to leave early (daughter had a graduation dance). A few of the first bitches did quite well but as we were packing up I caught glimpses of the poorer work.  Phil, I do have them in my notebook in the order in which they went on the field if you need a hand naming the dogs in the videos.

Rob, I agree with you on all counts except one- are you sure the cracking heard across the field was not the blatant warm-ups being given close to the field? I could hear them quite plainly from where I was sitting, coming from behind the building toward the street.

Too many shallow grips, dog sitting back on their butts looking for their handlers instead of guarding...I will pull out my notes and give a more detailed opinion tonight or tomorrow.

Spot on!

The 15 female dogs that failed the courage/protection part of the Seiger show. Do "reputable breeders " breed these dogs??  Just curious!

WAIT a minute...this is what I get for posting before checking facts. 15 bitches did not fail.

27 entered
5 rated insufficient
2 rated sufficient
2 were a no-show at the gate
7 were pulled, no rating given

11 pronounced

So no, NOT 15 failures.

I spoke with a friend who was there during the performance test, a regional breed warden who has titled dogs in the double digits, as the SV Master Sports Medaillon w/diamonds, etc. Her aopinion of the improved caliber of bitework corroborates Rob. I asked whether the judging was more on a club trial scale (as opposed to the prior years). She said it was judged moree on a trial scale (club) than before. She also said that it was probably the best bitework she'd seen at the Sieger Show in years and attributes it to increased/better training of the dogs involved.

There were only 2 cracks that you could hear with each dog. They always occurred in the drive of the short attack. No crack was ever heard outside these occasions. No crack could be heard when once the helper locked up.

Therefore if you could hear them clearly from your distant seat then surely that adds weight to my observation that the stick hits were real.

I have no special fondness for dogs that can serve only as impressive garden sculptures. BUT I SEE NO REASON TO CREATE BOGEYMEN WHERE THEY DONT EXIST NOR DO I SEE REASON TO DENY CREDIT WHERE IT IS DUE.

See Phil's Video when he posts them.
