This is a non-profit, no kill shelter, Northwoods. I have done my homework (before I posted).

by zdog on 21 February 2014 - 03:02

so you were there?

by zdog on 21 February 2014 - 03:02

it's a glorified dog resale shop, posing as a "rescue" :)  They aren't difficult to spot.  Play the emotions and watch the dollars roll in how freaking noble of them.

Then the "charletons", the "dog dealers" showed up at the shelter, sent by some who have posted to this thread to try
to get there hands on some of the dogs most likely for personal gain

Well, EXCUSE ME!  I thought I was doing some poor dog a favour by getting it out of an overcrowded shelter and into a decent home when I referred the friend of a friend to the shelter. They are looking for a family pet, after having lost their 12 year old Rottie mix!  Angry Smile

If you are going to quote me, Sunsilver, don't quote me out of context. There were people showing up claiming they owned or co-owned some of the dogs with either no paperwork or phony paperwork. I applaud anyone who is trying ot help. Please read my posts carefully.

When you have seen crated dogs living on a packed solid, three-inch
build-up of faeces all over the bottom of their cage, uncleaned for weeks
and more, the fact that a couple of day's worth of muck has been left there
and walked around by dogs that don't have room to avoid it becomes a little
less shocking.

Were these dogs being kept badly?  Yes.  Were these dogs being neglected?
Yes.  Was it a very poor kennelling set-up ?  Yes.  Was the choice of sawdust
and shredded paper for bedding / sopping up the floors a good one ?  Maybe
not cos it very quickly gets 'pawed' up all  over the wire mesh, and spreads
everywhere.   But it was snowing outside and maybe this was the only way she
had of getting most of the dogs indoors ?  Bad planning certainly, cruel: maybe.

But people, do try and keep reactions more in proportion.  I very much doubt this
was the very WORST set of conditions anybody involved in Rescue  for any length
of time has seen.  [Or they have heretofor led a very sheltered and lucky existence]

And sure, there will also be chancers who try to get dogs which might be profitable
to them as breeding stock, hanging around the Shelter at a time like this.  But it speaks
to nobody's credit IF anyone who does have paperwork, whose dogs are chipped
or tattooed to them, etc, are possibly being turned away too, does it ?  The HS should
make sure they are squeaky-clean on that point.
