IMO, unless one has taken a poll or visited, during whelping, all kennels in States, it is strictly conjecture claiming " bucket puppies" is rampant in US.

As I clarified to Hundmutter once, I'm talking about German breedings, not American breedings.

I know you are, Jenni, but HM evidently missed that.

I hope this works, it´s not up to date, and I don´t now the source, but it´s interesting at least.

I asked a breeder in East Germany about blues and culling and he said he had never seen a blue, but had seen a puppy registered as being this colour, but it would obviously not be bred from.  He also said he would not cull and did not know any other breeders who would just because of faulty colour, the pups would simply be homed as pets.

The "old" breeders did and do cull, the younger ones don´t. Times changed even in Germany Clown

Yup, Susie. That's who we talked to (stud owner and I). Well-known breeders in Germany...not young. The ones who really value their reputation don't seem to want to be associated with them . They thought it was quite hysterical that idiots in America pay thousands for them from horrendous lines.

Cool list, Susie! Thanks!

I noticed that Jeck Noricum, who Filius is linebred on, carries liver. Dasty vom Gries, liver producer, too. I'm going to read the whole list. Very interesting! Thanks for posting!!!

There really are quite a few blue pups being produced in the US and according to the one yahoo group, jn several other places,
seems odd to me, that if these colored, inbred dogs were so plaqued with health problems, it wouldn't be like finding a needle in a haystack to get some documentation of it.
It's readily found about dobies, and yorkies, AGAIN, I AM NOT SAYING IT DON'T OCCUR IN THE GERMAN SHEPHERD, just where is the documentation of it?
Oh, thats right, there was one case,, from poorly bred dogs....one hair condition. WHERE pray tell are all these other health problems that come with the color?

Okay, let´s think about that - for decades a female was allowed to raise up 6 puppies, not more ( Thank you, Mr Stephanitz...). There was no internet during that time, it was difficult to find a foster mother for the breeders. Puppies were culled, no question, in this case blue pups, liver pups, and coated pups were culled.
Times changed - now it´s allowed to raise all of the pups ( Thank you, modern world...), but the "blues" really are very seldom.
Jenni won the jackpot!

As far as I know, when Filius previously produced blue, it was one pup, and it was only one time. Now, the owner told me a son of his just produced one blue pup. So, it seems unusual to me that I got THREE. Not sure it's a jackpot...lol, but I'm not the sort to get all bent out of shape about something like this. They're healthy (whether certain people want them to be or not), have great, strong personalities, and I don't regret for a minute that I chose not to pretend they don't exist. Someone like me will be researching months or years from now, and at least they can find these posts to refer back to.

Susie, shall I charge prices only lottery winners can afford since they seem to be "jackpot" pups? Tongue Smile LOL    Sadly, I wonder sometimes if I raised the price to some ridiculous amount, if I wouldn't have pet buyers w/more money than brains beating down the door for them. Oh, this darn conscience of mine. Teeth Smile
