any one who thinks just cause you have never been on a podium or title a dog, that you do not know what you are talking about is stuck in the old way of thinking and it makes them the biggest moron on the planet and tells me alot about inability to think for them selves and have learned nothing but repeating what they have heard.have a nice one.

I have stood on the podium a few times - big whoopie do.  More valuable to me is my accomplishments, podium-standing or not, with my own-bred and trained dogs - whether we win, lose or do "reasonably well" I'm not on that sport field to stand on the podium.   I'm there to compete at the level my dog and I have worked to achieve.

I also have huge respect for people who train, title and raise their own puppies, own-bred or not.  Sort resume - I have trained/titled 5 dogs from 0 to Schh3 - three of these are my own breeding.  I have achieved with these dogs the Bronze, Silver, Gold and Master Gold Sports Medals.  All 5 of these dogs were Schh3 and FH multiple times, competed at club, Regional and National level (and sometimes stood on the podium) and one achieved world-team member status as well.   One was titled 25 X Schh3, 19X of those Regional and National level.  He was also AWDF FH National Champion, was also trained for cadaver detection (just for the hell of it, something interesting to learn about) and has also been my house dog/constant companion from the beginning.  I am now in the process of raising/training/titling several young dogs from my breeding program.

There are other breeders, trainers, competitors like me out there, who also post on this board.  IMO anyone who breeds dogs that have no titles whatsoever are doing the breed a disservice.  Age, physical motility, health - there are many reasons why "I can't title my dog" - fine - then send it away for someone else to title it.  That won't work (more excuses) - then don't breed it.  If you can't or won't put the time and effort into titling a dog before breeding it, then you shouldn't be breeding dogs.

Not so fast my friend. This V rated, KKL1, W/L dog has been on the podium, and is owned by a contributer to this thread.

I sincerely hope they do not take offense to me for posting this link to their beautiful dog. Oh, least I forget, she made it to the "podium" by besting not only GSD, but also Mals, and in Germany, no less..

Maggie, you are the one passing yourself off as an expert, who does nothing but type and talk.

Held,

No, because nobody in Belgium would have bred to him without titles.

by eichenluft on 18 June 2009 - 18:06

Rik is correct - noone would have bred to him without titles, so he would not have produced "anything" literally.  He himself would not have been produced, born at all, had his parents not been titled.

Ya know, there are people out there who don't WANT to title their dog. It's not all about excuses for everyone. Some people just don't want to do it, and it's a conscious decision for a variety of reasons. Titles does not a good dog make! Some dogs w/titles are great. Some suck. I judge the dog in front of me, and anyone considering buying a pup needs to judge the dogs and the breeder. There are good breeders w/excellent dogs who may not have a title for one reason or another. There are crap breeders who title every dog they get (half the time at some "trial" w/2 entries held at midnight or whatever).

I have a 6yr old male I will not title. It's principle at this point. He's no sport dog anyway, but he'd title w/out much difficulty. But I won't do it. Just for the sake of argument...does this change who he is in terms of whether he should be bred or not? Does a piece of paper modify his DNA?

Just take a look at the showlines w/titles and then ask those "Sch.3" dogs to bite. Titles are only a tiny piece of the breeding puzzle. Breeding should be a TOTAL PACKAGE endeavor.

As an aside...you can't imagine the number of inquiries I've received about breeding to this dog and/or buying a puppy from him. He has a standing list of people wanting a pup from him as long as my arm. Too bad I have never bred him and wouldn't for public purchase. My point is that while many are sheer morons who think he's gorgeous, looks like a clone of his sire, yada yada yada, an equal number are knowledgeable people who appreciate that he's a good dog- a good example of what a GSD is SUPPOSED to be, temperament-wise. Too bad I don't feel there are enough qualified homes out there. It's not that he's so hard to handle....it's more that I think we have gone so far downhill most people don't even deserve a dog like that. We get the dogs we deserve.

Are you freaking guys kidding me,this is the best you can come up with.this was a hypothetical question.i did not ask if some body in Belgium would bread him or not,you jokers are killing me here but you are giving me a pretty good idea of what you and don't know and that was the whole idea for me to ask this question.have a nice one.

So you are saying it is no "big whoopie" to stand on the Podium at a Sieger Show?
