Well, IF Obama is elected and reinstitutes a draft, I'll have a hard time keeping myself from laughing my head off at all the pimply anti-war protestors that would have put him in office!
Schadenfreude!

Is that you Barney??
"Most of the toxic mortgages were made during the Bush administration."

RPK, when do you think the real estate market took off? When do you think banks allowed owners to treat the equity in their homes as if it was an ATM machine? When do you think the ridiculous teaser mortgages were marketed heavily?

Barney

Actually, it is the thing that I fear more than anything else - because I have two kids who would be eligible for the draft.
We MAY see a draft under Obama. We will certainly see one if McCain wins and implements the neo-con views that he propounds.

Barney,
You and your "Democrats" forced through policies mandating that banks must give loans to those who normally would be poor risks............
The problem did not start because of deregulation. It started because of hyper-regulation............. Because Democrats did not think it was "fair" that only people who have saved a lot of money and have reliable income sources should get loans
Ask Your then Boy friend Moses who work for freddie.
Just for the record............ Who in their right mind would leave YOU, BARNEY in charge of any thing that began with Freddie or Fannie?

We've got a daughter, 19. I fully understand, and I think it would be a grave mistake to begin to draft young people unless the country was attacked by a hostile country. The all-volunteer military is successful, and adding thousands of young people who do not enlist voluntarily would cause many problems. Look at Viet Nam.
But, if Obama does it, I'm still going to point and laugh at all the little anti-war/anarchists as the barber skins their little noggins.

RPK,
Your guys were in charge from 2001 and so if the previous administration adopted the wrong policies, then all the needed to do was to reverse the policy. After all, Bush was the DECIDER.

Barney

Keepthefaith,
Many of us may have already forgotten all the scaremongering about the draft that the left engaged in during the 2004 election...but not me. The Democrats ranted, they raved and I'm still waiting for the Bush draft you liberals said would happen........So now you guys are going to try that on McCain?

Yes, the all-volunteer military is successful but unfortunately over-extended. Afghanistan is going down the tube which why even General Petraeus advocates arriving at an accomodation with the Taliban, Pakistan is a HUGE problem and Iran could blow up. We have North Korea with nuclear weapons and Iraq remains a problem There is not the manpower to deal with all these contingencies.
I agree that the draft would create severe divisions in the country very like happened with Vietnam.
