"Damn I can't believe I agreed with him again.LOL"

LOL, could be because he is right!

...and I agree with you.  It is a great injustice to these poor dogs.  I wish I could change the conformation  on the breeders and judges for a day, and see how well they move about.

I don't a problem with people enjoying showing in confirmation, but how anyone can enjoy looking at let alone showing what the conformation GSD has become is beyond me.  These poor dogs with their cow hocks and weak hind ends are ridiculous.  I just saw a puppy a girl bought and started in agility the dog's back end couldn't even follow the front end and ot because he was a puppy.  It was because he was so weak in the rear.  She thought this dog was just ACES.  I didn't say anything, just walked away shaking my head.  These people that have been in conformation have been there too long.  Jimmy Moses and the like need to move on.  I did not find his dog one bit attractive that took 4th in the herding group at West Minster last night.  She wasn't as bad as some in the hind end, but certainly not what I like looking at when I look at a GSD.

I have to say Raymond is right it's all about the almighty $$$.

We are but a sum of our experiences.

When I made the decision that I wanted a GSD I knew one thing and one thing only.  I did not want an American bred GSD.  I'd watched my godbrother be broken hearted twice by two American line GSDs, one due to severe dysplasia and one due to uneven temperment.

So I got an imported Czech line bitch.  You know, those's crazy Czech dogs.

First time I took her to the vet, they were prepared for a dangerous situation.  I looked at them bemusedly and as the exam went on, all I heard from the vet was how when they hear a GSD is coming in they're prepared either for a dog walking on it's hocks or a dog so crazed in the head that it'll fear bite anything.

My girl was neither of these, she bounced in, happy as a lark, confident and sound and is a favorite at the vet.

As for 'alert' dog, my 10 year old lab goes off on strangers coming up to the house, my GSD doesn't say a word, yet strangely enough all she has to do is look at someone to back them up a step.

In my mind, it's not so much about confirmation or how we want to define work for the dog, it's about what the German Shepherd Dog should represent in his/her mind.

A confident, clear-headed, trainable dog, who wants to please, is aware of his/her surroundings yet not adversely affected by enivronment or change.

And *that* is what I see is wrong with some GSDs being bred these days.  They're either scared of their own shadows or so crazed for prey they can't turn it off.

Breed me a clear head that can do whatever I ask of it.  That is the GSD.

I don't think the average pet buyer as any say at all on what the breeders feel like breeding. We don't go through umpteen dogs in a lifetime, not like you professionals. So how can you blame it on us!

Thank you wrestleman.  I think he is pretty special myself!  If knew how to stack him I would put an updated picture up.  He is only 60 mos old in that picture.  He has only gotten better with age I think. Anyway Thanks.
