Steve, Steve, Steve -- (sigh - shaking my head)

by Gustav on 08 December 2009 - 19:12

Why have no top showline dogs done well at the BSP/WUSV in past 20 years. Showline dogs are 70% of the German Shepherds in numbers. They are NEVER in top 20 in either events in past 20 years. Do people honestly think their are NO showline dogs in the hands of capable people that could take a dog to these levels. Why don't the top trainers go get a showline puppy from 8 weeks and give them the "nurturing/training necssary to compete at this level? Its genetics!!!  There is a difference in the two dogs genetically. Doesn't mean that showline dogs are bad...not saying that, but if a person here thinks training and nurturing will turn a showline into a top world competitor than  you don't have a clue. The facts don't support this, history of past 20 years dont support this, genetics doesn't support this, it is what it is, not what people want to say, that isn't the case. And until many dogs of showlines are competing at top levels , (which will require the infusion of workingline blood), its not gone to happen.

Maggie:

The comment to Sue was uncalled for.

Jim is very correct and since he works working line dogs for a living I put some weight behind his experience and agree with him whole heartedly. And I,m not refering to "sport" dogs i,m refering to working k9,s on the street.

Up bringing has a large play in a dogs reactions to a situation how it is trained what enviromental issues it has faced in it,s upbringing and training, Yes a weak dog can be worked thru many problems but I feel that if enough pressure is placed on the dog it,s true temperment will show. The trainng hope fully allows more presure to placed upon the dog before it reacts to a situation genetically it,s called fight or flight it comes down to that decision in all dogs good training can help reinforce the level of pressure exerted on this animal before it makes this genetic choise or feels it has to.

What real life dogs have you trainned that can,t live in a home?

And being condicending to Steve only shows your lack of knowledge and your wealth of ignorance, I know of the people he trains with and gets dog from better you will not find.

hahhhahha - There you go again, maggs lying through your teeth and trying to re-write history.   You're the one who started with the name calling, and not just with me, with anyone on this board who disagrees with you which pretty much includes the majority of posters on this board, I merely took my lead from you.  I am sorry for stooping to your level, I'll try not to let it happen again.  It would help if you would stop making such incredibly stupid statements, you wouldn't be such  an easy target to laugh at,  but obviously you are oblivious and can't help yourself, so I will try to do better and control myself from toying with you in the future.

The problem with you maggs is you don't "question".  You state your bizarre opinions as if they are fact, have no experience to back them up, have no respect for people who prove time and time again to you that you are wrong, and refuse to  give people who have been there any credit.  You want to believe all this negative garbage about  working line dogs, police K9 handler/trainers and people involved in schutzhund such as your retarded statement above about bite work.

" If anything, a lot of the people who do this sport seem to be the ones who think it is the BE ALL / END ALL -- videos of sleeve biting set to some "edgy music" -- whoo hoo."

Of course I am not  surprised or disappointed, this is just another one of the narrow minded, judgmental statements we have come to expect from you.  You win the prize, you take the cake, you are  the most breathtakingly ignorant and bitter person  I have ever had the displeasure of  running into.

Maggie:

Again what dogs of drive have you ever work? any suit work? suspicion work? civil?... It,s all i,d like to know to make me say Mags is on the ball here i,ve been put in my place.

Maybe I can make it easier any rabbits? squirrels?ginnie fowl?frogs? how about a cat surley you have litter trained a cat? Kids have you potty trained kids? or does your expertise end at running around a ring with a toot horn yelling "Lars Lars" and waving at pretty prancing doggies? Inquiring minds want to know.

Maybe what has you uptight is the idea that pretty prancing doggies don,t do well with edgy music.

Maggie,
Well, I hope Jim learned some things from Hans.

I have learned things from many people and I am always striving to learn new things.  I go to several seminars a year by some of the best dog trainers in the world, not just SchH people, but K9 guys and recently a bird dog guy.  Amazing the things that you can pick up.  I also learn from my fellow handlers in my unit and the people I do dog sports with.  Funny, I even learn from watching ad talking to other dog owners.  Sometimes you can a lot by watching people make mistakes in their training, you can learn what not to do as well as what to do.

I have decided recently not to voice my opinions in a negative fashion with people on the PDB.  So, I am trying to just ignore certain threads and posters and am trying to be more upbeat and sticking with the threads that interest me.  Perhaps, you could consider this as well.

Hey, it's the Holidays can't we try to get along, just a little more?
