I would definitely agree with you Hundmutter. The mother is away from this age pup quite frequently. Imo 5 minutes away no harm but every one has their way and if it works good for them but imo you get to do this again. The first of every experience tells you everything about your pups. Who is the strongest best nerve, who recovered quickly and so on but imo you can't do that with the mother in the room because that will increase the puppy drive and interfere with the challenge

If you need the mother removed when they are merely three weeks old in order to read your puppies correctly, than maybe you don't know as much as you think you do. You'll see more than enough reactions and novel situations throughout the time you have them, with and without the mother. I could give a ratsass about what anyone thinks needs to be done. These are my puppies and I won't remove the mother just so I can please a bunch of frickin internet experts.  I can still see which puppy is hesitant and which puppy gains confidence from the mother, which puppy is the most bold and independent, wants to explore and walk away from the mother, which puppy makes the choice to be with me instead of being with the mother. All of that gives you information. But hey... you can't ever get information because the mother is present and it's all wrong anyways.

 

 

 

BE, please help me understand why you would post a video of anything for people to see and give you their opinions on, right or wrong, and get upset and go off on those same people when they present you with their opinion?
This is NOT to say that I agree with them, but, I fail to understand why anyone posts a video, thereby asking for the general public's opinions and complains when they dont get the responses they wanted?

I didn't ask for anyones opinion, nor did I ask for advise. I simply shared a video. What they do with their litters is up to them, IF they ever even bred a litter of their own. It's seriously beginning to piss me off that you can't share anything without someone finding a reason to tell you that you are doing it wrong.

Give me a EDITED break. If you can't read your own three to four week old puppies with the mother present, maybe you need to stop pumping out puppies! And if you never produced a single litter, stop telling people what needs to be done!

BE, thank you for your response. So, to be clear, you were not looking for anyone's response, you simply posted a video to be ignored by everyone, I understand.
Look, ANYTHING you post on a public forum WILL be subject to scrutiny, you cant control that, but, you can control if you post, what you post.
Now, I have no idea who breeds or does not or what they know or dont, I know that some people love to post to "hear" their voices, but, again BE, if you decide to post in a public forum, you will get responses and you wont like many, if they dont agree with you. Have a great day and stay safe.

No one is suggesting you have to agree with me; it was just my take on how I like to do these assessment things as pups grow. Each to their own methods. You may or may not have seen anything different if Mom had not been so close. We may well be looking for different traits to show out, anyway. Why on earth are you turning this into a pissing contest ?

Bladeedge, its a good thing mother animals can get away from their offspring, else those living feral or wild would never be able to find food to wean the young with, right ?

[They almost all and always, whatever species, need some food provision and lessons in how to eat it, from a parent. Howzat for nature v. nuture (genes v. environment/training) ?]

B on an other topic you spoke about why people can't have an honest discussion about different dogs line breeding and so on. Well your response on this topic is the answer.
You and many are way to Sensitive. There was not negative said about your pup just an opinion all constructive imo could you imagine if someone spoke negative about your breeding. I'll leave it at that.

Mother of my first litter - now 5 days old, takes periodic breaks during the day from her pups to go outside, greet the family and get some exercise.. for over an hour even. At night she stays in the whelp area. Her pups look great. She instinctively knows when to check on them and tend to them. I will not dictate to her how and when to care for her pups when clearly she's doing her job. As the pups grow in the coming weeks I will gradually experiment with the pups in their environment near and away from mom.

 

 

I have yet to have a female that will leave a 5 day old litter for over an hour. 😳
Considering they basically nurse every two hours. They go out, pee, poop and race back into the whelping box.

As for me being sensitive, I have seriously had it. And I have zero issues with discussing bloodlines. Most of my videos have been shredded on this page and this is the last one I will ever share. So yeah, I am a little sensitive and people have shredded my breedings and my dogs. And yet I continously put myself out there. EDITED Its not worth it.
