Mystere, please see my posts on here right above the money pic. I do intend to post a new thread with the info as soon as I hear back from the bank. I wanted to post it so nobody has to dig through this mire to find it.

You're welcome Mystere. I just figured I'd wait until I have the actual contact/mailing info before I post the new thread. I got an email back from the bank and she said she'll get back to me when it's ready. I would think YellowRose is either on her way or there by now. I didn't get the money thing either, he's got some axe to grind but he's grinding it on the wrong stump. I guess he thinks we're making her rich, I don't think $20 from each is going to push her into the millions. Anyway, we just want her to be able to get back on her feet. I will post the new thread under "GSD ASSISTANCE FUND for Shandra". Watch out for it, should be late today or early tomorrow.

By the way, if anyone is interested, I can post a copy of the emails (without my personal information, I used my work email since I'm doing this during the day) and the responses I received from the bank. The Branch Manager, Patti Johnson, has been very easy to deal with and very helpful. Just let me know before I leave for the day so I can copy and paste. Thanks all.

I just had time to catch up on this thread. Count me in. Shandra, heed the advise you have been given regarding pushing fluids. 2 liters or more per day would be reasonable and not too much IMO. Liquids containing caffeine don't count because they are dehydrating fluids. Thanks for keeping us informed. If there is anything in particular that you need, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Just a point of interest, mercury does not cause a bacterial infection in the kidneys. Elemental mercury intoxication in this case was by route of inhalation, unless Shandra was eating and had mercury on her hands. In any case, urine tests should easily have given data as to whether any mercury was present in the kidneys. Based on what she said, at least at the moment, it is not present. There should also have been blood work done and that would have showed whether there was or was not mercury intoxication........

I STILL want to know what anyone was doing with POUNDS of mercury in a bottle!! The fiteen-year old boy, I understand getting it, however he came by it. That's the kind of stuff 15 yo boys do. That's one of the reasons I have always thanked my father for passing me an X chromosome. But, some adult was apparently in the mix somewhere and needs to be held accountable. Is there any legitimate reason to have that stuff on hand, in enough to weigh in pounds? Just curious...

Nia, we haven't had any further info on what he was doing with it or where HE got it. There are some companies that buy and sell it to labs and such but what was an individual doing with it and why was he giving it to a child? These are questions I had too but was more concerned about the immediate problems first. I'm sure we'll hear more when things calm down for her.

Nia, Many, many people in this country and many schools have bottles filled with mercury. We used to get calls at the health, safety and enviromental division I taught at in a major university from people wanting to give us the stuff they had in their basements etc. We could not take it because of the expense in disposing of it as hazardous waste. It is no different that all the people who have jars of other things sitting around, or things like picric acid bottles sitting in some back storeroom of a high school chemistry lab. With time, this stuff becomes unstable and shock sensitive, meaning trying to open a bottle can cause it to detonate. The fact is that most of the country is completely ignorant of such hazards. Just read on the database how many people said in essence that this was not a big deal. The form of the mercury is also important and because elemental mercury is so interesting to play with, many older people think it was not a big deal because they played with tiny amounts as a kid. As I mentioned before, the federal reporting threshold for mercury is a single pound. If one understands the haz waste and hazmat regs, one also knows then how mercury is viewed. Add to that a little understanding of the toxicology and hopefully people reading this will know it is something that needs to be out of their house and disposed of properly. By the way, most people get their mercury exposure from eating fish.

Hodie, when I wentto the er lastnight all they did was a urine test because of my lower back pain. Tomorrow I have to give a first morning sample to the Health Dept, which they will send off to the state health dept in Tyler which will then give me the mercury level results.

The intial bloodwork done on us, the day of the spill, came back "ok" according to ER staff, no one else has said anything wlse to me and I had to raise cane to get those results. Of course that blood draw was before I slept overnight in the spill area with the heater and ceiling fan on. Keep your fingers cross that everything comes back fine :)

Yellow Rose left just a little bit ago, my laptop battery died earlier today, I just got back to the hotel to charge it. She brought a couple of her dogs with her, beautiful to say the least.

Thank ya'll so much for doing this, I dont know how I will ever be able to repay the kindness shown to me here.
