Titled with CD or CD and AD is all I would want.   I would not want a SchH titled dog.  That would be way out of my reach money wise.  Oh one would be great but out of my reach.

Most people who do AKC obedience work don't do it for money. It's a totally different venue with a completely different purpose.  Most GSDs in the AKC ring are people's pets or companions. Also, the minimum age for a CD is 6 months. What is the point of a having a CD on a dog that you didn't train yourself? Most club training and classes is not very expensive, the joy of having an AKC obedience title is the fun and bonding of you and your dog doing it together.

I agree, KCzaja. Most people I know who do AKC obedience are doing it with their pets. Sometimes people who just don't have the patience do pay trainers to put a CD on their dog, but really, classes aren't expensive. In my area there are drop in obedience classes for $6 - $10 per session. If you are at all teachable, you can do it yourself and it's fun to work with your dog.

If you go the Schutzhund route, you can train your dog for a BH with only slightly more work than for a CD. Heeling is a little different, in that the BH allows for more animated work. And you have to remember the patterns you work in since the judge won't tell you what to do next if you go blank during the trial. lol

KCzaja

You are correct.  It would be a joy to be able to say, "hey, I trained this dogs"!  Doing it yourself would be a joy.

Thanks,

1500.00 to 1800.00 is the average puppy price from good bloodlines. If you lucky you find a decent dog with a BH/CD for 2500.00, but 3000.00 and up is more what you are looking at for a dog with a BH/CD, hips and elbows done. Police dogs go any where from 4500.00 and up with little to no training (green dog).

",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,wow...... it goes on and on and on.    I better just win the lotto."

Or maybe you are just better off not getting a dog........

So you want this titled "babe" for what hmmm let me guess breeding her as soon as she comes in to season.  Sorry to burst your bubble but contrary to popular belief selling puppies is not the best get rich quick scheme.  I'm not a breeder but I work for one who has been doing for longer then I've been alive and they have put more money in to it then they have or ever will see back from it.  But if you'd prefer to make a buck off of selling sickly animals who live in squalor its a free country, have at it.  And if I'm way too far out in left field I apologize for my tangent........ Good luck with the new dog.

like someone said on another thread  It is a blessing to a breeder to have a dedicated owner willing to train and trial their dog. so if you are serious about training & titling you might be able to work out some sort of deal with a breeder since generally they love having their dogs worked/shown and titled.  another option is to look for a breeder who is reducing their kennel size,  you might be able to pick up a  partially trained dog for a great price.  and if you promise to title her who knows what sort of deal the breeder would agree to.  also there are breeders who will do breeding contracts..  but remember unless you pay an extremely high purchase price for a dog the purchase is really only a small amount of what the dog will actually cost you once it's all said and done.  having a dog even as a pet is not cheap so be sure you are willing/able to afford and care for the dog for it's life span which should be at least a dozen years.

No I do not plan to try to make a few bucks.  To be honest.  I just believe it would be nice to have a CD GS.  Having a dog that is trained beats having kids.   Most dogs are eager to please.  I know it is a hastle sometimes trying to train yourself but, if you can find a good trainer that will at least start the dog for you then that should be ok.   Besides, I am not the one who is going to breed dogs without knowing what the heck I am doing.  I have spoken to many breeders and also told them that as far as breeding, I would only do so with their permission and blessing.  One puppy with bad faults is too many!

All I know is when I get my next GS, I plan on doing what I believe is right and train him/her myself and or hire a professional to help me.  I want the satisfaction of being able to say, " I did most of the training"!

As far as I know, you cannot get rich on selling dogs unless they are excellant blood lines and multi titled and have many of these type of dogs, like these big name breeders who train and show their dogs and spend thousands of dollars doing so.  They are the ones that can sell their dogs for lets say, $2000.00 to $5000.00 depending on the bloodline, titles and training.  I would only be able to sell for maybe $800.00 to $1200.00 and if I were lucky the bitch would have 8 to 10 puppies and even 8 would be me an average of $8000.00 per litter per year.  And then I do not believe you should breed, breed and breed.  Where is the fun of that?

Get rich, me?  You know any other jokes?

You are right!  There are some breeders that do offer special contracts if you title your or their dog.  I have been emailin a few breeders and have been told they would help me if I plan on getting the dog titles.  That is cool.

And yes, owning a dog is expensive.  I have had GSs all of my life.  Bred only 3 times and only because I worked with the breeder and thus knew what I had.  Didn't get rich thoug.  Got broke if anything.......shots, food, boarding, supplements, etc, etc.  that all adds up to allot of money.

Got taken a few times.  Lost allot of money but, that will not discourage me from having the another GS of my dreams.
