Dog came fast and a little low. Low makes it a harder catch for the helper. Don't know why the helper was backing up before the lockup after the catch. That's faulty helper work.  Nice dog. I love his attitude before the release for the long bite.

this dog's performance adds to the faith i have in staats, kennel.

not dismissing the great training to get him there but that grip and drive don't come so much from fancy training.

Same dog from the LGA. Not sure how long before the BSP this took place, but the control was obviously greatly improved. :)

I,ve seen a different view of the catch from above and behind. Yes the dog is fast but the helper bails very hard to the sleeve side by 4 to 6 feet before the dog even gets there and yes appers to be moving backwards also.

THe  helper moves to the sleeve side to "force" the dog to go hand side as that's the side the helper is most comfortable with.  It also usually (but not in this case) slows the dog down a little since he has to track the target instead of just run straight.  It's also what set this helper up for the take down.  Dog coming that fast hitting the hand side of the sleeve as he was moving elbow side, set up for a great "crack the whip" kind of reaction where the dog's hit is magnified on the catch.

I personally don't like the moving sideways of the helper, some dogs will counter that movement by going harder to elbow side and it sets up the potential for a great collision.  I don't understand why the helper was moving backwards before the lock up for the out.  That's extremely faulty helper work.  Instead of pressuring the dog through the drive, it turned into a big prey bite at the end.  Don't get that at all.

There was another video of a helper coming at the dog and about 20 or so feet before the catch  during the long bite the helper pours on the coal and speeds up dramatically and that really caught my attention(impressed)  and then also bails hard left and back. Yes the dogs are fast and not slowing or gathering before the bite but all the other motion is in my opion is almost up setting.

But in there defense I could never or would ever try to catch a dog at those speeds. I,d just like to hear a reason?

bczc:

I teach my dogs to track the center of the man. My female Fiest would of cut hard to her right and followed the helper into the turn to the center.  And yes she stays low untill the grip. and yes helpers have said they Hate her. But it keeps them honest.
