JLB82

Hello,

He is 6 months old now and his left ear went up three weeks ago. I have noticed a little improvement of the last couple of days, but I'm worried he is running out of time on that right ear. The back of the ear seems to be strait and up, but the top is still floppy. When he runs both ears stand straight up and the right one wants to, but then gives up and goes back to flopping. When he is sleeping on his left side, his right ear will also stand up for a long while. Should I glue or tape his ears? Or leave them alone. Some one also told me to shave his ears. I really want him to have his ears up, but if he doesn't I will love him anyway, he is my baby. Opions please.

They are too big to tape now, tape won't hold. I suppose he is still teething?
During teething ears go up and down, I wouldn't worry too much; just let him look funny for a while...
Never heard about shaving ears to make them stand, but don't shave them either, cuts in ears bleed lots!

Yeah, he has been teething. He just got all of his pearly whites in completely about two weeks ago.

not too big to tape or glue!

personally, I would use some type of weather adhesive glue and put a hair roller in his ear, the old lady type.  they are light weight and will not weigh the ear down.  all I've ever used is 3m weather adhesive, which another breeder told me to use,  it generally holds on the ear for about a month.  my dogs like to play in water and its been the only thing I have found that won't come out.

of course, before using the weather adhesive, I would shave the inside of the ear,  so when it does come out,  you aren't pulling hair too.

the base of your dogs ear is standing,  but I bet the leather just isn't very strong. glue the ear up, give him some bones to chew on and add some cottage cheese to his diet,  let us know in a month if they are standing or not.

Liquid Surgical Adhesive & Dr. Scholl's Mole foam You cut the mole foam to fit flat inside the ear. Cut it the exact length and shape of the ear. Put the Adhesive on the inside of the ear and on the sticky side of the mole foam.

go to menards....get the blackish gray pipe insulation. it is a heavy foam material. it comes in long pieces and is cyndrical. you cut it in the shape of the ear and place it is and then resize it to his exact ear size. Carlos from von Huerta Hof does the best when making them. I have seen them use a German glue in a yellow, black and red tube and also surgical adhesive. I have been lucky to only need it for a short while when my female was 4 mos. I do know if they aint up by 4.5 mos you need to get the forms in and leave them in.

hope this helps

I don't think it's too late for the ear. I would use foam like someone said and use Tear Mender. Tear Mender is a breathable glue that will not hurt or irritate the dog at all. You can get it at any tractor supply store or a fabric store. Just note that every puppy is different so all their ears are not going to go up when everyone else's does.
